The 2012 MediaGuardian Edinburgh International Television Festival takes place over the 23-25th August, and will include an exclusive screening of the premier episode of the seventh full series of modern Doctor Who for delegates at the event. The festival will also include a masterclass on the BBC1 series Sherlock, with appearances from Steven Moffat, Mark Gatiss and producer Sue Vertue. As part of the weekend the Festival also holds a Channel of the Year award ceremony, and nominations include Richard Senior in the Producer or Director Debut of the Year category for his work on Let's Kill Hitler (which premiered at last year's festival); he'll be up against Grace Reynolds for Educating Essex and Dan Albion for Dynamo: Magician Impossible. Voting is open to festival delegates, and takes place on the 24th August. You can keep up to date with the festival via the official website and blog. www.doctorwhonews.net/2012/05/dwn090512124008-series-7-premiere-at.html

August Airdate for Doctor Who Series 7? Have we received a big clue on when Series 7 of Doctor Who will finally hit our screens this year? The Guardian reports that the opening episode of the seventh series is to be screened at the 2012 Edinburgh International Television Festival this August. The opener will be showing at the festival which takes place 23-25th August. Looking back to last year’s schedule, a BBC broadcast shortly after seems likely. Last year, Let’s Kill Hitler was shown at the same festival on 26th August. The episode premiered on BBC1 the next day. If the same thing were to happen this year, then we could be looking at Saturday 25th August, which is a bank holiday weekend. It’s earlier than expected and does go against Steven Moffat previously stating the show would “straddle over Christmas”, but scheduling can change. Of course, if the show does return in August, it opens the question of whether they will only show the first 5 episodes… doctorwhotv.co.uk/august-airdate-for-doctor-who-series-7-33719.htm

Are there any news regarding the running time of each installment? I seem to recall having read somewhere that the length of each single episode should reach feature film length. Anything on that?
