Former Emmerdale actress Jenna-Louise Coleman has landed the role of the Time Lord's new companion in Doctor Who, the BBC has confirmed. Chief writer Steven Moffat announced the actress will replace Karen Gillan's character Amy Pond when she leaves the show in the next series. Coleman, 25, has also appeared in Waterloo Road and Julian Fellowes' four part mini-series Titanic. The actress told the BBC's Lizo Mzimba that she found out about the opportunity while she was grocery shopping. www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-17460172 ;D

I'd been hoping for Miranda Hart or Anjli Mohindra (to bring Rani Chandra back from The Sarah Jane Chronicles).

As usual, she has detractors already. What's new? But who knows how it will go - I don't think they've made a bad choice yet, but certainly Karen and Arthur will be a hard act to follow.
We'll just have to see on the day, won't we?

As long as the character is strong and interacts well with The Doctor, then she'll be a good companion.

I've seen comments suggesting she won't be 21st century human, or possibly Earth-human at all, but I'll believe it when I see it. It'd be a nice change though.

I'm sad to see Rory and Amy go. This is acutally the first time I heard about that. Amy made me stick with the show after Matt Smith took over. Nice show, but I kinda miss David Tennant. How many shows will there be with Amy or will she be gone directly at the start of the new series?

With the sixth show being the last of 2012 and the Christmas Special, when the new companion is being introduced. I've just had a wild idea that she could be Susan... returning to the TARDIS after all these years. www.heropress.net/2012/03/doctor-who-could-she-be-susan.htmlIt would be an AMAZING way to mark the 50th anniversary

Okay, drumroll:
What if she's the Rani?
Okay, now the predictable is out of the way, I just want to say that the chances of her being a previous character is vanishingly small. It'd be nice for those in the know, meaningless for the other 75%. Sad, but true.
