Hi guys, I thought I'd put an adventure idea on here to help get suggestions and keep my well of inspiration from drying up.
The idea I have follows on from a past episode. The basis of it is: the group found a crashed ship from a civilised and advanced insect race known as the ssazik. The crew were dead but in the log they discovered that they were from a federarion of worlds that was at war with a virulent mist like species known as the plactoras (who have the power to possess).
The ship had been sent after the last known plactoras, but were infiltrated from within and the crew crashed the ship.
What I want is to set the adventure in the federation to explore the corrupt elements of the government and who set the ssazik crew up. Basically, think frontier in space. Has anyone got any suggestions or ideas as to whY the group could do or get up to? How might the adventure look? Ideas welcome

One thought I had was to set it on a base where a big conference is going ahead and the group witness someone assassinate the leader of a nation. They get blamed and must run a gauntlet of problems to get somewhere to tell the government the truth. Pretty much like the film "the warriors". I'm sure there's better suggestions out there though because it doesn't leave much scope to bring the plactoras back as bad guys.

I'm sure there's better suggestions out there though because it doesn't leave much scope to bring the plactoras back as bad guys. Have the federation as a very diverse group of aliens who don't want to co-operate but have to to defeat the Plactoras. During the meeting the federation is discussing the use of a superweapon to get rid of the mist once and for all. Some fear that their species is next on the list after the Plactoras have been defeated, and they are right: the (insert one of the aliens) want to use the weapon to eradicate one of their "allies". Others find it dishonorable During a break, one security guard is on the verge of panicking, they have found the body of his college and suspect him to be a mist infiltrator. The mist will hop from body to body, urging the council to give the codes for the activation of the superweapon. Driven by fear a large majority votes: Yes and the codes are released, the weapon is ready for use. Evil senator 1 has moved the superweapon to right under the base. One of the technicians is possessed by the infiltrator and (threatens to) release the, altered by him to target the federation, superweapon.

The PCs visit a ship that was destroyed becuase the crew feared possession by psychic mist monsters? My first question would be "who wants their character to be possessed?"
(Note that I'd make it an offer for players who were up for it, rather than forcing it on someone. Players generally don't like losing control of their characters without any say in the matter, even though they're often happy to play evil for a session or so if they can choose.)
Or, another Federation crew arrives and they're possessed, and can therefore accuse the PCs of being plactoras agents. Having the guilty frame the innocent is a good start to a manhunt with the PCs as the targets.

Well, no...the group don't need to be on the ship at all. I put the crashed ship in a previous adventure and hinted at the corrupt gov of the federation (or factions in it). The point is to go back in time to when the mission started and really to explore the federation and introduce the ssazik and plactoras races into thr story again. All i mean is that for continuity purposes, the corrupt people need ro send the ship of unknowingly doomed ssazik in the mission that ultimately leads to the past episode.

I like the idea of the plactoras being controlled by one of the member races of the federation. Let's say the virik (just to give them a name) want to create an empire and enslave the other federation races. The only other federation race powerful enough to stop them are the ssazik. The plactoras are either mercenaries or perhaps they are constructs. I like the idea of constructs better. So, the virik created the plactoras to eliminate the ssazik. The plactoras are maybe designed to play on ssazik fears about space ghosts or something.
Going back in time would allow the PCs to attempt to destroy the virik labs where the plactoras are being developed, in a storyline similar to genesis of the daleks. There could be a mad virik scientist who is in charge of the plan. Oh, and the virik themselves are, of course, total space nazis. Their hatred of the ssazik (and other federation races) is clearly based on xenophobia. They are convinced of their own superiority and right to rule over the other inferior species.

Some really good suggestions here guys! In fact, I probably wouldn't have come up with any of them on my own, so thanks! I really like both the idea for a super weapon and the idea of the Plactoras being a race actually created by bigger enemies. Both suggestions add scope and drama.
