So, this is really a thinly disguised 'who's your favourite' thread... basically, who are your five favourite companions? (It has nothing to do with the BF subscriber audio). Everytime I try to pick mine I just end up with a headache. What I feel I need is some sort of framework, some criteria to work within. The five most interesting characters? The five most awesome? The five I'd most like to be stranded on a desert island with? (since Romana isn't supposed to cross her own timeline I don't think I'm even allowed to choose both original regenerations  ). So I got to thinking about doing my own DWAiTaS 'special' called The Five Companions. My framework then becomes trying to figure out who I would pick to be part of a companion dream team. Which five companions would I like to see united together in their own unique Whoniverse adventure? This makes things a bit easier, although I have still had a tough time whittling it down to a final selection. Anyway, I think my five would be: Jo, The Brig, K9, Lucie and River. But, to quote the TiVo advert... what do you think? |

I'm not sure that River counts as a companion though - she's more an independent almost like the Doctor. Also not sure about the Brig - he didn't travel around with the Doctor much, usually arriving by his own means  I'd choose - Charlie, Lucie, Amy, Evelyn, D. I. Menzies |

Taking on board Curufea's concern that River might not count, and sticking with the TV shows for those who haven't read all the books, I would choose, in order of appearance, Jo, Sarah Jane, Leela, Ace and Donna. Not easy to get the list down that far but all five have strength of will enough to do the adventuring thing and different enough personalities to make the mix interesting imho.

Never really got into the audios (my other half loves em though), but counting the Virgin and BBC books in with the TV series, I'd go with:
Ben, Jamie, Sarah Jane, Roz Forrester, Donna Noble
(If we're going TV series only, swap Roz for Polly)

Sarah jane, matches so much with the fourth and had a nice evolution from start to end.
Nissa, if i had been a child during her time with the fifth doctor i should have fall in love with her, even if there are not that much evolution of her character.
The Brig'. the one the only and the best.
Jamie Mc Crimmon; because he is this higlander who travel in time and space and that's not nothing...
Romana, the first is a delight of time lordiness, the seconde is a sweet part of wanderer time lord.
If little Amelia Pond were a companion, she will be the top of my list.
Iwish there was a team up, amelia doctor.
