For the campaign I ran, I was using a Type 82 Tardis that had been put on a moon prior to the start of the campaign. As it had never bonded with anyone, the doors were featureless, not unlike the plain metal doors of an elevator. As a result, the chameleon circuit was working fine, but the players didn't know that it did!
So this metal box would appear, but the perception filter prevented anyone from seeing it....

I ran a campaign in which the TARDIS had a functioning chameleon circuit as well. In the course of four sessions, the old girl imitated (in no particular order): an ordinary door in a long hallway, a soda vending machine, a black Humvee, a cargo crate, and a port-o-potty.
