Im actually just going to vote ok for this one. It was too slow to get going and never really took off either. Maybe the second half will be better. Very attractive Silurian women. ;D Speaking of which, all of them (as we saw in the next week segment) looked female.

I really liked this one...not only a cute silurian, but the first silurian I've seen that didn't look like it was in a suit with a flashlight taped to his head. I thought the pacing had trouble becasue they were really trying to get a lot of information into the episode (hopefully as a setup for next ep). The seemed to drop the "oh theres our future selves waving at us" item in and then just walk away from it. So major attraction was finally they reimaged one of my favorite DR Who races for the new series!

Very attractive Silurian women. ;D Maybe just as well that Silurian fashions seem to have moved on from the string vests of yesteryear...

Enjoyed the episode overall. Much preferred the tension of the first half though. Maybe it's because I'm not keen on the overly humanoid redesign of the Silurians, but when one turned up that's when the episode became a bit more average to me. The cliffhanger felt really underwhelming too.
Overall I did enjoy it though and with five episodes in a row that I've either enjoyed or really loved, this series is turning out to be pretty solid. Meera Syal was very good in the guest cast I thought and I am intrigued to see what will happen to the man who got infected.

Speaking of which, all of them (as we saw in the next week segment) looked female. I noticed that too - but in the confidential I'm sure some of the head casts were male. Also - I wonder why they went with a stinger tongue rather than with the third eye raygun? Possibly that will be mention in the next confidential. Overall a good episode, but did mostly feel like filler - that it was padded from 1.5 episodes as a story to 2 episodes.

According to Confidential, the first cut was about sixty minutes long, and they showed a deleted scene of the Doctor and Amy discussing Rory and the Doctor admitting he likes him.
Which I'd have thought would have been a better use of a minute than a quarter of that massive four-minute pre-credits sequence setting up the kid's dad really slowly.

I hope that scene appears on the DVDs, because it looked like an important one to me.

I agree - it looked a bit like a try-hard Horror of Fang Rock where we are being forced to empathise with characters in a inescapable area, hunted by a monster. They've even set up a zombie-esque "someone is infected" as a potential threat for next ep.

Thought it was a bit old-school myself - worked though, kept me entertained for 45 minutes.

Just went with ok on this one too... The pace was glacially slow, there were no real moments of suspense, neither Amy nor Rory were really given much to do, and the Doctor seemed... off his game.
For example, he seemed terribly unconcerned about whatever the venom was that got injected into the old man. You'd think he might have at least worried a little about what its effect might have been.
Also, a big deal was made of surrounding the perimeter with cameras and other devices... and yet they were forgotten almost as quickly as they were set up.
Here's hoping the second half is better.

I enjoyed the episode, though maybe not as much as I would have liked, especially as I'm finishing off my Silurians RPG adventure this evening.
It did feel like a Pertwee episode with the slower pace. It was still very enjoyable and I very much look forward to part two this week.

Agreed. I got the impression that the different tribes of Homo Replitius have developed different adaptations: "Silurians" have a third eye, "Sea Devils" are adapted to breathe underwater, and this new tribe have the venomous tongue. Maybe the Doctor knew what its effect would be...? You mean when the power went out and the cameras became ineffective? Like others, I also felt the episode was way too slow. I liked the bit about older Amy & Rory popping by for a visit. It amused me.

I'd like older Amy & Rory to pop up in every episode myself Like the observer in Fringe.

i liked the episode. I liked future Rory and Amy waving. Once I accepted that these were yet another breed of Homo Reptillia, i was okay with the new design.
