Now that was Doctor Who.
Storming good fun. Not, on balance, a classic for the ages like Blink but fast, funny, scary, grimly-heroic-y, Dog-Soldiers-y...
Oh and they moved while we were looking!
June 26th is my birthday. Looks like a day to remember.

Loved it. They moved. It rocked. There was smoochie schoochie time.
And in the Confidential Matt said the S word.

Best yet after Matt's debut episode. The new series is definitely a grower. I remember it took a while in Tennant's 1st season for it to grow on me -getting used to a new doctor is odd but this is shaping up nicely. Lots to chew on tonight.

S word?
I don't think I liked that the Angels moved. I'd always assumed that we, as viewers were observing them - which is why we never saw them move in Blink even though no one was watching them.
Also they appear to have gotten over the "don't look at each other" clause.
Otherwise though a great episode. Solution to the puzzle - run and survive long enough that the Angels kill themselves.

The S word was Silurian....
It's something of an assumption that we the viewers also prevent the Angels from moving. It's just down to the way it's filmed - at the same time as the characters can't see them our view is obscured purely to allow the actors in the Angel suits to move without being seen by us so it's extra creepy when we see then again.
The directors etc are not obliged to film scenes purely to fit fan theories! ;D

Hated the ending.
I am so sick of everyone having a romantic crush on the Doctor.
I far preferred Donna's relationship with him. Or Wilf's. Or even Christina de Souza's.
It would've been more interesting if Amy had a Daddy thing going on with him, especially since they look about the same age.
Oh, and River was far more engaging in the library episodes. Hope she's written better in the last 2 eps of this series.

Hope she's written better in the last 2 eps of this series. I could be wrong, but I suspect that both of these issues relate to character development - i.e. Amy's link to the Crack and River's crime.

Hated the ending. I am so sick of everyone having a romantic crush on the Doctor. Romantic? Rose and Martha were 'romantic', simpering after him without saying a word for a series or two. Amy deliberately tried to have weapons grade smoochie smoochie time with the Doctor. Slightly different. With all the drawings, dolls, psychiatrists and dressing up, we're talking obsession here.

Heh. It's what Matt and Karen called it in the Confidential; I just added "weapons grade" to it

100% loved it.
Not a thing in the episode I could complain about. This is EXACTLY how I want Doctor Who to be. Brilliant!

The Time Of Angels 10/10 Flesh And Stone 7/10
Overall I enjoyed this two parter a lot. Gripping, intriguing, entertaining and suspenseful. I was quite relieved to be enjoying a series five story so much, after being quite underwhelmed by both The Beast Below and Victory Of The Daleks. I hope this two parter is more an indication of overall quality of the episodes yet to come.
I liked the bit where the Angels moved. I can understand some people not liking it because of their given reasons. It reminded me though of a horror movie I saw long ago, involving Jack The Ripper and a wax museum and a character's dream sequence where the dummies began to come to life and start craning round. Needless to say, some elements of the story reminded me of the Ring movies.

When I saw the bit where Amy puts the moves on the Doctor I thought - yep, this is Steven Moffat. Russel T Davies is a romantic at heart, and it shows in his work. Steven on the other hand is very keen on more adult kinds of relationships and situations

was it me or was the Doctor a bit too fast to fly off the handle ? This is the second time in 4 eps hes started yelling, it felt right in the beast below but this time it just seemed like he needed stress counselling

My group loved this episode. We loved Father Octavian. We loved the Angels. We loved River Song. And we continue to love Amy and the Doctor.

I remember watching this ep when it aired [and every time I caught a repeat too. I love this ep] and loving the Doctor's "trust me" plea to Amy. I loved that bit. I remember noting that he had the jacket on even though he lost it and wondering if that was just a costuming mistake for that scene. now we know what really happened and I love the scene even more.
