Also, announced for release in January are four more Temporal Travellers - a set of superb sculpts which bear more than a passing resemblance to the older Amy (from The Girl Who Waited), Rose with her anti-Dalek gun (from The Stolen Earth), Sarah Jane and Jo. Picture at the bottom of page 1: Crooked Dice December 2014 NewsletterThe new Temporal Travellers are now available to order: Temporal Travellers 2

yup the calendar had nothing new which annoyed my mum because she was hoping for the new doctor plus Clara so we could give my daughter the spare ones, as it is I gave my kids a dalek each. it contained cyber men, sontarans, 6 idaleks, silurians, ood, zygons and martian warriors,

It's been a couple of months since there was any miniatures news to report. But Crooked Dice have just posted a picture of their April releases - Soldiers and Scientific Advisors - including a not-Brig, not-Kate and not-Osgood:

Well the not-Brig is carrying a pistol not the Brig's usual revolver. Completely different...

I'm no expert in firearms but a pistol similar to that was his chosen weapon in "Ambassadors of Death."

It's a Browning HP. Standard British Officer's sidearm of that time: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Browning_Hi-PowerThe other British Officer's sidearm was the Webley, from 1887 to 1963: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Webley_RevolverIIRC, this was Wilfred Mott's pistol from The End of Time. Any officer from the UK or Commonwealth during The Great War or Second World War will be issued with this pistol. It wasn't uncommon for ex-officers and NCO's to keep these after the war. And for the sake of completeness, the standard Assault Rifle in the UNIT era was the UK Amred Forces FN-FAL, which was known in the UK and Commonwealth as the L1A1: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FN_FAL UNIT troops from any of the Third Doctor classics from the early 1970s can be seen wielding these (as well as the British version of GI Joe, which was called Action Man.)

I'm no expert in firearms but a pistol similar to that was his chosen weapon in "Ambassadors of Death." He used a Browning in a few episodes, "Robot", "The Green Death" and "The Ambassadors of Death" at least. Though the pistol in the miniature's hand looks more like a classic Colt Government. But the Brigadier is forever associated with the Webley Mk IV. As also used by Ian Gilmore and Jack Harkness. A surprising number of Walther pistols also cropped up in the hand of UNIT, mostly P-38s and PPKs. None of which were British Army issue. Did the Webley really serve until '63? IIRC the UK adopted the BAP in '55 but I suppose there were an awful lot of Webley's in storage. I'm surprised the Treasury didn't suggest converting them to fire 9mm Parabellum... The .38/200 wasn't a round I liked, while the Browning is a lovely pistol, if a little dated these days ETA: Ah the FAL, an excellent rifle though not one I'd advise firing on full automatic.

If anyone missed them the previous times, the free gift in this month's Doctor Who Adventures comic is a set of new paradigm Dalek minis. Moulded in gold plastic, they're the right size to sit alongside the standard 32mm figures, like the Harlequin and Crooked Dice ranges.

The new batch of Bones plastic figures from Reaper includes some scenery, like a dumpster, a shipping container, and... a British police telephone box.

I've set up a separate thread for this in the Other Games section, but I thought it was also worth mentioning it here. Warlord Games have secured a licence to produce a Doctor Who Miniatures Game: Doctor Who Miniatures GameThe licence covers both classic and new series, so we can hopefully see a shed-load of new miniatures in the not too distant future!

I think their Doctor Who game has taken a back seat in recent years in favour of their 7TV system. They've never charged for the Doctor Who game, but I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes unavailable for download before too long.

This would be a good time for anyone who hasn't got it to grab the PDFs.

For a limited period and in limited quantities, Crooked Dice are producing a set of not-Cybus Cybermen miniatures (and also a card set for their Doctor Who Miniatures Game). They're not available to order from the usual CD website, so here's the full message from Graeme: For a limited time (and with a limited amount available) you can now get 4x MetalMen sculpts and a whole printed set of DWMG cards from me personally. See the FB for full details: www.facebook.com/groups/138178571446/
OR:

FLAT RATE POSTAGE £1.50 (UK) £3.50 (Europe) £4.50 (International)
DWMG Card Set x120 cards £20 120 double sided pro printed cards with every profile in the basic rules. Stats on one side, rules on the back. Includes 5x blank cards. Maybe there's a large supply somewhere. BTW there's still nothing on the Warlord Games website about the DW miniatures games, just this placeholder.

Yes, I suspect they've either got a stockpile of them, or they're just carrying on using the same moulds (I believe that moulds for plastic minis are usually very expensive, as they're metal rather than silicone or rubber).

If anyone's trying to complete their collection of Citadel/Games Workshop figures that were produced for the FASA RPG back in the late '80s, Who North America seem to have a few of the American-style packaged sets going cheap: FASA MiniaturesMind you, I've no idea what their shipping rates for outside the US would be.

I'm not sure where this guy has got the pictures from, but he's posted some photos of a few of the figures from Warlord's forthcoming Doctor Who Miniatures Game: John's Toy soldiersThere's a bit of speculation on Facebook that these might be slightly larger than other Doctor Who minis (though the sculptor has apparently said they're 32mm, i.e. "heroic 28mm").

Warlord have put their first two sets of figures up for pre-order. The 10th Doctor and Companions Set(The Doctor, Rose, Donna, Martha and Wilf): The 12th Doctor and Companions Set (The Doctor, Clara, Vastra, Jenny and Strax) - no photo of the figures themselves that I can find, so here's the box art instead: Priced at £19.99 per set and due out in the summer. Now, there's been a bit of chatter on Facebook about Warlord producing these in a larger scale than the more usual "heroic 28mm" favoured by Harlequin/Black Tree Designs, Crooked Dice and others. I've not seen any statement either way from Warlord, but if so these may not be compatible with the older ranges, which would be a shame.

I may be wrong, but I see that both Heresy and Crooked Dice have taken down their WHO-ish miniatures now, which is a shame...
Still will see what the new lot are like, hope they are worth it, and have a decent production schedule!

I may be wrong, but I see that both Heresy and Crooked Dice have taken down their WHO-ish miniatures now, which is a shame... There's been talk on Facebook that the BBC have issued cease and desist letters to the likes of Crooked Dice. Some people are very upset about this, but in fairness the BBC need to protect their intellectual property in order to attract official licensees. And in the long run, they'd risk losing their IPR (which is precisely why the Metropolitan Police lost their ownership of the design of the police box).
