Discussion on another forum has pointed me in the direction of Alector miniatures, available from the Who Shop: www.thewhoshop.com/doctor-gaming-miniatures-alector-miniatures-c-284_380_315_180_108.htmlI would guess that this is old stock rather than a new range, as the logo on the packaging is the TV movie version. All I could find about them using Google was that Alector did a range of 35mm and 75mm figures under the banner of "Behind the Sofa". They're a bit pricey at £3.99 a pop for the unpainted figures, but I took a risk and ordered a few, which arrived a couple of days ago. They are all labelled as 35mm scale, but the actual size of them is a bit variable. The Zygon and Sontaran are both perfect for use with 28mm minis such as Harlequin, and the Ice Warrior is also strangely small for 35mm and matches the size of the Harlequin equivalents. But the others are all noticeably larger to a greater or lesser degree. For the Yeti and Ogron, this is OK as these figures loom impressively over 28mm humans. The Movellan and Draconian are a bit more obvious in being slightly oversized, and the Time Lord positively towers over 28mm figures! The sculpts are also variable, but most are better than they look in the photos on the Who Shop site and are actually at least as good as the average Harlequin sculpt. For my money, the best looking of the ones I bought are the Sontaran and the Zygon, while the worst are the Ice Warrior (which has a very awkward looking pose and an oddly small head) and the Ogron (which lacks much definition). The others I bought are pretty decent. There are a few of the ones I didn't order which don't look too good in the photos - the Silurian in particular looks weird, but that might be the paint job. And it's a shame that there are no photos of the Daleks - but I guess that size difference would be a bit too noticeable for them. Anyway, I thought I'd let you all know about these in case anyone might be curious about them.

Here are some great Dalek models from Shapeways 3d printing www.shapeways.com/model/247325/28mm-dalek-trooper-sprue.htmlThe models are really light wait, and you will have to seal them with some layers of mat varnish or white glue before painting them but there detail and size are great, they are about the 32mm range so bigger then the black tree stuff if you want to match other doctor who models, like the new series models. Here are mine painted up And here is my black tree design tardis painted up as well for fun So much fun to paint. Also if anyone is interested i do commission painting work so if you want to buy models and have me paint it we can work something out. -Andrew

I read about this - I imagine this is a big blow for Ainsty.
The Who related minis that Ainsty produce are the resin police box exterior and control console, plus the Mechanoid ("Mechanot"), identifiable because it comes with small brass attachments (arms, grills, antenna). My guess is that they're likely just to be dumped somewhere. But you never know - watch out for quantities at car boot sales and so on. Hopefully, one way or another they'll be recovered.

On a more positive note, has anybody noticed these minis on Shapeways? 28mm scale 3D figures for various Doctor Who characters and creatures - looks interesting! www.shapeways.com/designer/YartekI've never seen a 3D printed model in real life, so I'm curious as to how these might look - the pics look to be very detailed. They're not for sale at the moment, but a couple of new ones have appeared on the page over the last couple of days so it's an expanding range.

Good attempt at human figures there for the Big Bang, reminds me of old Ral Partha figures, with the caricature nature of the heads and hands. The ESPcher I might get, but the humans are the wrong style for my collection.

There's been a bit of a set back on the Shapeways figures front, and they've been withdrawn from sale. You can read about it in the designer's blog: minisculesminiatures.blogspot.co.uk/A huge disappointment (the order mentioned in the blog was mine), but fingers crossed that these figures will eventually see the light of day - even if that's a year or two down the road. My wallet, however, has breathed a sigh of relief...

The new issue of Doctor Who Adventures advertises the forthcoming 300th issue at the back, and it looks like the free gift will be "The Ultimate Dalek Collection", i.e. more plastic Daleks in roughly 28mm scale.
There's five New Paradigm Daleks: white, red, blue, yellow, orange. And five older style Daleks: black, grey, silver, bronze, gold.
The 300th issue will be on sale on 28th December.

The classic Daleks are nice, but as this image shows they're the same size as the New Paradigm, making them a bit big for general miniatures scales.

Doctor Who Adventures magazine have a job lot of Sontarans and Cybermen on this week's cover (until Thurs 24th). These are the same plastic figures as from the Mega Monster Army back in Aug/Sep-ish 2012. They are not the best quality miniatures, but make up for it in number. They paint up okay, although the Sontarans are little poor quality. Here are some I painted earlier. For reference, the Cybermen are just painted glossy silver all over and then inked all over with GW Nuln Oil. I painted the eyes and mouth myself, which is why they are a bit wonky. Attachments:

Doctor Who Adventures magazine update again! This week's mag (7th - 13th Feb) has figures we're mostly seen before (1x Cyberman, Sontaran, Silence, Dalek) BUT it features an awesome Tardis pencil-topper which is almost perfect scale for 25mm/28mm figures! I've had real trouble finding an inexpensive Tardis model I like in the correct scale, so this is a huge bonus. It has stickers for the St John's logo and the public notice and while it is largely unpainted, I've found that a little dab of white miniature paint in each of the window and lantern faces makes all the difference!

Any idea for sources for some of the these miniatures in the US?

It looks like Doctor Who Adventures isn't available in the US (WhoNA doesn't even appear to have it) so you could look for them on eBay - or if you get enough advance warning of a particular issue, ask for someone here in the UK to pick one up for you.
eBay is also your best bet for the Micro Universe miniatures as they've been discontinued. eBay.co.uk will probably have more, of course you have to check for international shipping.
Black Tree, Crooked Dice, Hasslefree and Heresy ship to the US according to their websites.

Collectible figurines partwork. Apparently they're almost as big as the new smaller action figures. The monsters look pretty good, let down by a wonky Doctor likeness. And after the discounted first issue these series always get decidedly expensive.

Attica Games have released a series of "proto-people" clearly inspired by the Flesh/Almost People: www.atticagames.co.uk/shop.phpLooks like more monstrous versions are also in the works.

Nice. Also amusing that they made alternative human and humanoid heads for not-Vastra and not-Strax but didn't bother for the human not-Jenny...
