What Do You Think Of The New Doctor?
Not the show, but the character of the new Doc.

I originally (before the series started) thought that Matt Smith would be too young to pull off the authority of the character but I've been prooved very wrong. I think he has a good run ahead of him.

When David Tennant was cast as The Doctor I new he would be good. I had already seen him in Casanova and was already a fan.
I knew nothing about Matt Smith other than good words from an interview with Billie Piper. Having now seen him, FANTASTIC! I really do hope he is here for years to come because he really is that good. His natural quirks make him great to watch, very much like Pat Troughton and Tom Baker. Each week I just cannot wait to watch Doctor Who and much of that has to do with Matt Smith as much as the story.

Never had any doubt when he was cast. Matt Smith brings a fresh insanity to the character - and an edge when you know for a damn fact that he's gonna lick some, y'know those "quiet moments" he has.
Long may he reign.
Nuff said.

The great thing is Matts playing it like an Old Doctor, he's being crotchety (raising his voice and yelling often), doing bizzare things (I loved the glass of water thing in the beast below) and they are putting in a few History gags (the library card, the Daleks accepting the Docors word). I think its all coming together spledidly, its hard to seperate the writing from the acting but a poor job at either end can make it awful. That just hasn't happened.
The most important thing is he's been believable as the Doctor

After seeing a couple of episodes I think I can form an opinion....
He's definitely the Doctor and definitely different from Tennant.
He's not as lovable in the role as Tennant or Tom Baker, but he's much more lovable than, say, Tony Hayward.
He has Tennant's manic enthusiasm for solving puzzles, along with Tom Baker's eccentric behavior and "alien-ness". He's also curmudgeon-y like Hartnell and not afraid of occasional fisticuffs like Pertwee and Colin Baker.
All in all, a good mix of qualities. The interesting thing for me is that after having an emotional and compassionate Doctor, we now have someone who is more reserved and irascible. It makes for a huge contrast, similar but somewhat less dramatic than the Davison/Colin Baker switch.
I think Matt Smith is doing a great job, but it will be some time before he can make the role completely his own.

I like Matt Smith as the doctor, he gives me a feel as a nutty professor type.

Honestly, I was sold on this by "bad, bad beans". He is great.

I am just now getting to watch the last of the Tennant episodes and just watched Eleventh Hour. I must say my impressions of the Matt Smith doctor is one of "Nutty Professor with an attitude!" I can't wait to watch the rest of Series 5... TC

I'm re-watching his first two series before the premiere of the 3rd and I am again overwhelmed with how good he really is. He's got the mix of all my favorite Doctors and more thrown in. I think the stories are great but just watching his portrayal of the Doctor is a real treat. I hope Matt stays around for a good long while.
