Above: Scarlet with The Doctor
This version of the Doctor splits off from regular canon continuity after Matt Smith’s Doctor regenerates sometime in the future.
The Doctor
The Doctor appears to be about 35-40, average height & build, no hair (bald/shaven), prominent dark eyebrows and piercing dark brown eyes. His face is a bit ambiguous, capable of looking intensely threatening one instant and gentler, younger and sometimes comical at other times.
He wears a greyish overcoat, a black trilby and red shirt, black tie and black trousers with ankle boots.
He looks like an odd 1940’s art-nouveau private detective.
He uses a version of the ‘future’ sonic screwdriver.
Scarlet Scott
Scarlet Scott is 27, blonde, a bit swotty-looking, wears glasses and works at the StyroTech Institute as a genetics research scientist when she meets the Doctor. Shes a nerdish young woman who is full of potential. She feels like life up to now is just not exciting enough.
Be careful what you wish for Scarlet...
The TARDIS
The interior of the TARDIS is reminiscent of the green/bronze colouring of previous Doctors, but has a sleeker, decorative art-nouveau 1930’s style.
The main console is basically the same hexagonal shape, but the controls look more clinical, metallic, and sleek almost like surgical instruments. The central column in contrast looks like something from Frankenstein’s Lab – a weird science cylinder with glowing cables streaming off to the ceiling and hanging overhead that occasionally spark with odd energy.

------------------
Scarlet is working at the StyroTech institute as a research scientist in the field of genetics.
Due to her curiosity she peeks into the restricted lab and sees too much of the research being conducted –something stirs inside an opaque incubator. Scarlet leaves before someone returns…
The mysterious and sinister new administrator of StyroTech, Miss Cagliari, sees Scarlet and secretly sends something home with her in her car – a slimey face-hugger.
Scarlet is falling asleep when she wakes suddenly aware something is in the room.
She asks who is there and a man replies ‘The Doctor’ and tells her to keep totally still.
Like hell! Scarlet switches on the light and leaps up just as the face-hugger flings itself on her face. It’s a slimy hand-shaped featureless greenish creature and it tries to suffocate her. It’s too strong to pull off.
The Doctor manages to stun it with a blast of concentrated sonic energy from his sonic screwdriver and it falls off but dies.
While he examining the creature, Scarlet launches a series of questions at the man calling himself ‘Doctor’ who explains he was interested in the goings on at the institute because he was getting ‘odd vibes about it all the way across time and space’.
Persuading Scarlet to go back into the institute with him that night, they break in and head to the restricted area.
There’s something in that incubator tank and it’s grown much more since Scarlet saw it earlier that day…
The Doctor pours over computer read outs and data and comes to a shocking conclusion…
Just then, Miss Cagliari makes her presence known behind them. She has two armed and oddly-blank looking security guards with her.
She tells them they have both seen far too much and since her ‘child’ will need nourishment soon as its growth rate increases…
The Doctor and Scarlet are locked into a clinically-sealed vault where the creature will be released through an airlock.
The Doctor stalls Miss Cagliari by talking to her about the creature. He tells her that it was grown from Dalek DNA and no good can come of it!
Cagliari explains that she had a specimen of DNA ‘procured’ from a private collector to analyse it and found the perfect organism – immune to all human disease, resilient, long-lived. With a test creature cloned from the specimen, she can find a cure to all known diseases.
The Doctor tries to convince her that the creature will have no emotions, no pity, only hate –and those traits could be passed on to humans if she uses it to make cures.
She dismisses his argument and tells them that she will make a ‘brave new world –free of disease, sickness and fear!’ and tells them the time has come to let her creature feed.
The Doctor pleads with her not to do it…
As she pushes the button to release the creature – nothing happens. The Doctor tells them he had reprogrammed the systems back at the desk before Cagliari’s entrance.
Instead he warns her system is on a countdown to destroy the lab.
She tells him he is bluffing. He says not.
She calls his bluff and waits…as the power generator under the institute begins to go into overload. Alarms shriek but they are trapped –all of them –as auto sealing doors slide shut.
“You’ll die with us all Doctor!” screams Cagliari
“It wasn’t my intention for anyone to be here when this blows!” he replies.
The Doctor asks her to free him and he’ll get them all out.
Maniacally she refuses.
The incubator cracks open and the Dalek creature emerges, it slithers toward her as she finally sees her ‘creation’ come to maturity. The Doctor and Scarlet watch through the armoured glass in horror from the vault.
“Come to me my child” she says.
In the most horrible Dalek tone, the creature replies “MO-THER?” as it wraps a tentacle around her gently and slithers up.
She cradles it in her arms as fires erupt in the lab. It appears to tenderly caress her face until it tightens a tentacle around her neck and throttles her…
“Are we going to die Doctor” asks Scarlet.
“This vault can withstand a bomb blast” he replies. “I think”.
Moments later, the Doctor and Scarlet are scrabbling from the almost-wrecked vault which has remained intact throughout the explosion. They run to safety through the burning ruins of the StyroTech institute.
o o o o o o o o o o
Next morning.
The sun is out and Scarlet accompanies The Doctor to a woody area of the park where a blue police box stands.
He offers her the whole of time & space to explore and she accepts.
Cue end music
More to come…
Game Notes:
Both players were briefed before gameplay and had story cards with info only their characters knew.
The players used Story Points to modify the following parts:
-Scarlet avoided being discovered (after a bad sneak/subterfuge roll) and taken hostage by Cagliari by leaving the vault before she returned the first time she was there in the incubator room. The Doctor was meant to arrive then but I decided on something else...
The GM (me) then added the bit with the face-hugger on the fly and had the Doctor arrive at her home.
-When the Doctor says he reprogrammed the system to explode
- When the Doctor states the vault can withstand a bomb blast -and it does.
Trivia:
The Dalek DNA was probably collected from some samples after one of the Dalek’s previous appearances on Earth after a battle where organic matter was strewn around and collected afterwards.
Perhaps some UNIT scientist sold it to a collector who offered millions for it…
The rationale for The Doctor being there is that he felt a temporal disturbance – history would have been changed had Cagliari succeeded in her quest for using the Dalek DNA to alter medical science and the future of mankind.
By extension, perhaps that’s how the Doctor followed Scarlet home – the presence of the face-hugger was wrong.
