Hullo, Kit, folks, The Aliens & Creatures boxed set is delayed. From Angus today at the C7 forums: While I'm sorry to hear about the delay on the Aliens & Creatures boxed set, to be honest, it saves me a bit of money for February and all that. Still, I want this, and hope that this doesn't mean the UNIT set will be delayed as well. I really want that one, to be honest, as my Friday night group are playing a UNIT campaign, so that material would be useful.

Alas, my read of angus' statement was that it would be delayed as well. hopefully Dom will comment soon and tell us how much of a delay we can expect. When he does, I'll repost the info here.

This is the sort of thing I like about C7.
They don't announce dates too far ahead where any changes/delays might then make releases seem so far away and then there is delays, they let the fans know.
I'd Karma C7 if I could ^_^

Anyway, please re-post the info here when further news becomes available. Thanks.

To be honest, I want the Aliens boxed set as well, since I want to get my hands on the rules and the like for creating aliens and beasties, but I don't expect the Aliens boxed set to have any of the Classic Who material in it, so that dampens my expectations on the set somewhat.

It's great that Cubicle 7 communicate with their customers, which is a major plus for an RPG company. So looking forward to these suppliments. And love the fact that they mention they are working on more... even better!

Perhaps after the delay passes, we wil lbegin gettign a lot of material released in a timely release schedule.

Dom at C7 gave us this sad news today: Hmm. If we take a 'couple of months' away literally, you're looking at the beginning of April. That's perilously close to season 5 of Doctor Who, I'd imagine

IMDB puts the first episode of season 5 at 13 March 2010 But being a non-authority - who knows how reliable the information is?

Hullo, Kit, Dom at C7 gave us this sad news today: Damn, this is somewhat sad and depressing news, for sure, but not unexpected. Any game that is licensed in the manner that DW: AiTaS is will have issues with the licenses that may delay products and all. I just hope that when it comes out, it's as good as what's come before and all. Still, that does make me glad that I've statted Ice Warriors!

This is a shame. I've just ordered my core rules this week, along with the GM screen and A&C. (I will buy UNIT too, but not all at once - I'm on a budget). I hoping to delay starting any campaigns until A&C arrives. I want my players to make all original characters, and I wish to strongly encourage a diverse group of aliens and/or robots. I don't know if I can wait till April though. I guess it depends on how quickly my core rules arrive, and how long before I've found the time to learn the rules and familiarise myself with the adventures. What options are there for alien PCs in the core rules?

They would have to take the Alien and/or Alien Appearance Traits to begin with, the Alien Trait acting as a "gateway" trait to the other various Traits that come in the section on creating aliens, but that's nothing. After that, character generation would be as per usual.

My daughter wants to play an adipose, and my girlfriend a cat person. I'm probably best to wait for A&C.

All you need to do is look at the traits listed for any creature and figure out if you can afford to buy them with your characters points. If you can buy all you need to have everything you need as a member of that race then you are away. You don't need some convoluted special rules with different points. If you can't afford to buy all you need then the race is probably too powerful to play as a PC. If you want something like the Vinvocci you just need the alien trait as the only real game difference is that they look different. In their case you might buy 'shimmer' as a gadget.

My daughter wants to play an adipose, and my girlfriend a cat person. I'm probably best to wait for A&C. Cutest party ever! :-) Cat people are easy as pcs. Just require the alien trait and claws. Adipose are trickier. Certainly they'd have a limit on their strength attribute. Small might also be a minor good trait. You're harder to hit and can get through small spaces. The statistical part of the charm trait might convert into 'cute' for the same 'Awwwww' effect.

(and why you can't play a good Dalek!). This actually came up in a comment on my blog to the question of "of anything you could play, what would you?" Mind you, they didn't want to play a "good" Dalek. Just a Dalek. I'd find it very boring personally. However - it got me thinking about how you could craft a scenario around a Dalek character.

That is a damn fine idea.
I'm now rather enthused about trying a convention scenario where you are all Daleks trying to do a mission. Putting something like the Cult of Skaro together for a convention game would be a lot of fun.

That's where the note on playing a Dalek was... I knew it was somewhere in the book, but couldn't remember where! Besides, far as I'm concerned, the only good Dalek is a dead Dalek. That's pretty much my opinion on this as well. Besides, I'm assuming that the rules for creating aliens and monsters in the Aliens & Creatures box set will be for creating beasties and the like for your game, not to create player characters based on alien beasties and creatures...

The statistical part of the charm trait might convert into 'cute' for the same 'Awwwww' effect. While I won't be caught dead letting a player play an adipose, I do want to comment here that I find it interesting that the game doesn't have a Small and a Giant Trait. You would have thought these would have been obvious traits for DW: AiTaS. So what do you give Small? A -2 bonus to Defense, and a -1 to Strength?
