I just realized that generally speaking timelords get given names Susan, Romana, Borusa, Rassilon, Omega while renegades get titles The Doctor, The Master, The Rani, The Monk. I find that interesting.

Psychological reaction? Gesture of abandonment of links to the Gallifreyan aristocratic heritage perhaps?

Not all of them. Drax was a renegade with a name and no title.
Susan was a renegade, but Susan was probably not her original name.
Also, the Valeyard was operating as a non-renegade under that title, though of course he is a very special case.
Another renegade with only a title: the War Chief.
Was K'Anpo a renegade?

I don't recognize the name Drax but I think K'Anpo was a renegade at the very least he's meant to have abandoned Gallifrey society if I remember right.

Drax was the technician in The Armageddon Factor and was apparently a student alongside the Doctor. He certainly abandoned Gallifrey but wasn't a Time Lord as such, having failed his exams...
