As the title say's if you got a TARDIS (theoretically) would you give him/her a name and if so what and why? That's why would you pick that name not why would you name it.

Yes, of course I would name her - Tardises are at least semi-sentient, so deserve a name. As to what name, that would depend on her personality. In our campaign my character's Tardis named herself "Bonny", as the first thing Taliesin said when he 'acquired' her was: "Oh, you bonny lass, look at you - you're beautiful".

Probably. It'd depend on the TARDIS's personality but vessels are usually named.

The TARDIS is a she because ships and boats are commonly referred to as feminine in English, but it is also appropriate to refer to one as it, and the Doctor often does. One does not call a ship he in English.
Recall that in the early days of Doctor Who, TARDIS was the name of the ship, not a common noun referring to the type of ship. This is why the Doctor never gives some other name to the TARDIS — it's already got one.
I'll admit it has never occurred to me that Time Lords might give their time travel capsules names in the manner of ships and boats, and I can't think of a reason they couldn't. My only thought on that is that the "modern" Time Lord never uses a capsule long enough to develop enough of an attachment to name it. They need no more identity than a transponder code to track them.
And thinking about it now, I can't come up with any names that strike me as something particularly suitable for a Time Lord capsule. Oh, there are your standard cool-sounding-for-fiction ship names like Venture or Discovery or Intrepid, but those seem too egoistic for a Time Lord craft. There are obvious names like Rassilon and Omega, but you quickly run out of Time Lord heroes to name ships out of, and having seen the Doctor's adventures we know that the men behind the legends weren't all they were cracked up to be.
Ultimately, I think only renegades would even consider naming their ships, and such naming would be very personal and impossible to predict. I think most probably wouldn't do that. We never hear that the Master or the Rani name their ships.

Obscure geek reference. Back in Ye Olde Days there was an activity known as phreaking, which involved misusing the telephone system, for example to make free long distance calls. One of the devices used was known as a Blue Box (hence the EU novel of the same name) which generated a 2600Hz audio tone, telephone switches used this as a control signal.
Oh, the old days.

I was working on a couple of scenario ideas, one of which is an expansion to the Twelfth Doctor book scenario Stormrise.
It replaces the Vector Key Macguffin with a pseudo-TARDIS created by a trio of Scions who were trying to flee the Time War complete with a sapient but not (yet) sentient AI. She's named Audra
