As part the festivities this Christmas, I'm planning to run a Doctor Who one shot for my family and I was wondering if people had any advise. I'm planning to run The Anti-Claus by Misterharry for my dad, his girlfriend and possibly her parents and whoever else wants to join in. None of them are particularly big doctor who fans and they've never roleplayed a day in their lives. I was thinking about what sort of pregens to give them, should they be doctor and companions from tv series or a FASA style group with their own time lord and companions. Since they wouldn't have the first idea about most companions, I'm inclined to go with the latter.
Any other advise for running for this sort of group of players would be welcome

If they're not that familiar with Doctor Who, I'd definitely go with original characters. When I first got into roleplaying, I was given a copy of Dungeons & Dragons for Christmas and my parents both offered to play it. They had no idea what was going on and I had no idea of the rules, so it was all a bit chaotic. The advantage you've got is that at least you know the rules!
If my experience is anything to go by, your family will probably need a bit of encouragement to get into the swing of things. They won't know how to roleplay and may be a bit hesitant about improvising what their characters do. Including an NPC in the group would allow you to provide a bit of guidance in-character and show them how roleplaying is done. But probably not the Time Lord for the NPC, otherwise they'll all defer to you.
Hope you have fun!
