Hello everyone ! I've been lurking here for quite a while reading about your great campaigns and borrowing ideas that took my fancy !
This year I'm running my second Doctor Who campaign and I'm rather happy about it, especially my second season... I must say I have some colourful PC to add to the fun as weel !
So, I'd love to talk about it with people who are whovians and gamers, both about what already happened in the game, but also about potential revelations to come...
I may although write a blog about RPG in the future, and my Doctor Who campaign would also featured there, perhaps with pictures...if that is the cas, I'll try to translate my posts (I'm French) for the campaign.
But enough chit chat, here are some crunchy bits to begin :
Pitch (for the 1st season) :
PC from different time perio wds fond strange doors and find themselves traveling through time and space ! During their travels, some of them have appeared and disapeared in a matter of seconds ! They have also met interesting characters : a certain Charlie Pollard who disapeared after some time and headaches, and a little girl (4 years old) called Eolya. They quickly discovered that she seemed to have a peculiar link with the « machine » they traveled with and was very smart for her age...
The Broken TARDIS : as I’m running the game in a club, it allows me to explain the sudden apperance/disapearance of the Pc according to which players I have !
I generally forbid Time Lords PC for campaign : I often found them too powerful compared to the others. But I did’nt want a NPC who made them feel like second best (or useless compagnions ! ;-) ), so, I came up with the idea of a Time Lady child… This way, they have the lead, they have to protect her (and her innate curiosity and naivete could eventually push the PC to act). Moreover, she has a chameleon arch (in the form of a spaceship toy) and can eventually help the PC with knowledge (especially exotic things like space-time) !
It worked great, my regular PC quickly formed a bond with her, kind of like a family (especially as she sould later be separated from her adoptive parents and siblings) !
My regular PC :
- Taldir, a silurian who woke up during the napoleonian wars, fought a bit for the French and almost died before being scooped away by the TARDIS. He is the serious, responsible one, watching over Eolya and explaining things to the others (especially as the player is a real fan of the show and know the universe quite well) !
- Jack Spark, a US history student who went to a college library and ended up in the TARDIS. He's quite impulsive (he has Texan roots ! ;-) ), but also has a big brother instinct that would show up.
- Perlin Pimpin, the wizard ! He was actually the apprentice of Merlin during the Camelot era (yes, the First Doctor before he went to 1963) ad got a "magic stick" from him which allows him to create illusions if he concentrates hard enough. It is quite useful, but on the downside, he knows almost nothing about technology and is quite naive... He has a relationship of mentor/student with Eolya (she explains things in words he can understand !) but little by little is also developing a fatherhood bond with her, teaching her about life and moral values...
TBC this week, with more details on the episodes played, the end of the first season, other recurring characters...
I hope I haven't bored you to death !
