I don't know why it took me so long. While leafing through the First Doctor Sourcebook, the thought struck me: Susan is the Doctor's granddaughter. Wouldn't that suppose that he had at least one child? And before that, a partner?
In several years of catching up with the series, I never again came across any information on how it came to be that the Doctor has a granddaughter. Has this question ever been explored in some source that I am not yet familiar with?
So, any ideas or sources about those questions:
1. Who were Susan's parents? 2. Who was the Doctor's partner/wife? 3. What become of Susan? Some forgotten Time Lady? A plebeian? Did she find some life away from Gallifrey?

Although I'm far from an expert but some of that is explored in the expanded universe and basically only there. To my knowledge there is absolutely no mention of Susan's parents or the Doctor's spouse but there is some follow up to Susan's story in An Earthly Child, Relative Dimensions, Lucie Miller and To The Death, all of which produced by Big Finish. There's some discrepancies over whether Susan is a Gallifreyan or a Timelord but that's for continuity buffs to figure out. As a last point I remember one of the FASA books saying that the rest of the Doctor's family (including his spouse and Susan's parents) were killed in an attempted coup on Gallifrey by the Master. Ultimately it's your interpretation that's valid because it probably won't be definitively explained any time soon but you never know

Depending on how you interpret the books, the Doctor was married to a Time Lady called Patience, ether in the distant past when he was "the Other" (according to Cold Fusion) or in a parallel universe (according to The Infinity Doctors). They had several children and grandchildren, one of whom could easily have been Susan. But it's all a little vague.
As CountClockwise mentions, Susan's life after being left by the Doctor on 22nd Century Earth has mainly been expanded on in a number of Big Finish audios, but also in one of the BBC novels (Legacy of the Daleks). There are a few discrepancies between the two versions, but nothing that can't be worked around. As for whether she's a Time Lord proper or a mere Gallifreyan (if indeed there is a difference), the jury's still out. We've not yet seen any other incarnation of Susan, so we don't yet know whether she can regenerate or not. She's certainly aging very slowly in comparison to humans though.

Hm, I might just cast Susan as a full-fledged Time Lord in my campaign.
Thanks for the information on books and audios. Unfortunately, the cost for these old novels is prohibiting. I decided I would like to read Lungbarrow, but unfortunately, the only copy I found would cost 200 pounds. That is a tad too much.
It is very unfortunate that there are no digital editions, but I understand the problems of licences and rights.

If you use the wayback machine you could probably find the free ebook of Lungbarrow that was briefly given out by the BBC on their website. They've also put up a few other books but it's nowhere near the whole range. I've yet to read it but I'll get round to it eventually but it would help if Big Finish decide to do more novel adaptations and adapt the thing. I can only hope.
