Nope it's not the Resurrection Gauntlet or the Bekaran deep-tissue scanner1, or the Universal Remote Control, but rather the book scanning device that Toshiko Sato described as an "iPod for books", that could digitally image the pages of a book from outside. A team from MIT has developed a prototype using T-rays2. Unfortunately it's currently only able to read though about nine pages.
1 Though with the development of pocket-sized ultrasonic scanners for battlefield/paramedic use that's pretty close too. 2 Electromagnetic radiation of around terahertz frequencies, where far infra-red and microwaves merge.
