For my next episode, I plan to pit Lady Penelope against a new opponent - the sister of Magnus Greel, whom I envision as an "ice queen'-type psychopath. Her appearance will be based on Victoria Smurfit's character in the recent Dracula TV series - see the link below. www.theplace2.ru/archive/victoria_smurfit/img/1_(3)(37).jpgBut I need a good first name for Miss Greel... something that rings true, that has the same "bite" as, say, Magnus Greel. I've pondered over various possibilities and, so far, the most satisfying answer I found is "Ursula Greel"... and I'm not that happy with it. If you were to name such a character, how would YOU call her?

If you know about Astronomy, it's name dervives from the Arabic word for "the swooping eagle". I found it on this site called Behind the Name: www.behindthename.com/name/vega . I often use this site when writing up my scenarios if I'm trying to find a good name for my characters. If you're looking for something specific of either definition or name derived from a specific part of the world, this is the site to use. Anyway hope this helps! Good luck with your game!

Vega Greel... mmh that does make a lot of Gs I takes it that Gs means 'great scenarios?' If so, I thank you for the compliment. Good luck on your game. I'm waiting to get back together with a friend of mine next month. Towards the end of next month/really early April I'm going to try and get us back together for our Adventures of Kanya Campaign where I plan to wrap up the final stories set in the 'Pre-Time War' Universe, then land my player smack-dab in the heat of the war to discover some of the things we haven't seen yet (such as the supposed death of Davros at the hands of the Nightmare Child, the Neverweres, and the hell the Tenth Doctor referred to that the Time War became in the End of Time Part 2 before the War Doctor decided to end it all). The Time War Adventures will be a short arc, but will have repercussions and an ending that will allow Kanya to survive without being stuck at the end of the universe and allow her to return for adventures in the Post-Time War Universe beginning with a one-shot Christmas Special which I won't say too much of. I will say I am working on an ambitious episode for a post-war story which involves Kanya and her first post-Time War Companion in a musical adventure where both me and my player will sing musical numbers throughout the game! I think musical numbers in an RPG, while they can be scary, can be fun with the right planning and cooperation between GM and Players. I think you should give it a try at some point to be honest. It'd be fun to have a Lady Penelope Musical One-Shot if you plan it with your friends accordingly.

So we play tonight - and probably tomorrow evening too, but it will technically be a single Episode, as far as continuity / episode count is concerned.
For the name of Greel's sister, I'll stick with Ursula - the character herself should normally appear toward the end of the first session, her reveal as the real villain behind the mystery working as a pivotal point in the plot.
The first session will mainly give us the pleasure to explore 1893 Paris - la Belle Epoque, le Moulin Rouge, meeting with Toulouse-Lautrec and other artistic / bohemian characters of Montmartre. The title (TBC after play) will probably be "The Montmartre Mysteries" or "The Mysteries of Montmartre" (which, BTW, would sound better to a native English speaker?).
So, no "musical session" (which would, I think, be very awkward and slightly pointless in a one-to-one gaming session - and anyway it's really not our thing) but the music soundtrack will feature quite a few songs - yes, with words (and in French!), something I usually tend to avoid in favor of atmospheric background music.
Main sources of inspiration: "Talons of Weng Chiang", the "Demon of Paris" audiobook and some plot elements of the "Study in Flax" scenario from the "Paternoster Investigation" sourcebook.

Well, part one was a blast!
We've interrupted play right at the proper pivotal point - it definitely felt like the first two parts of a 4-part classic DW story (which was just what I was aiming for).
We've enjoyed some really great setting immersion, lively interaction scenes with NPCs (including Toulouse-Lautrec and the woman artist Suzanne Valadon, with some cameos by Montmartre personages such as the cancan dancer La Goulue and the chansionner Aristide Bruant - yeah, that guy with the black hat, black coat and red scarf), very interesting conversations and moments with Lady Penelope's new travelling companions... all this while the "mystery in the shadows" was slowly building up - and now the game is afoot!
Lady Penelope has just caught a first glimpse of the villain behind it all but still has quite a few things to discover (including WHO the villain actually is) and to sort out - you know, saving some lives, preventing a 51st century war criminal from altering history and making sure It Stops Right There...

So, we concluded the episode yesterday evening - it was a blast! Episode 7: The Mysteries of Montmartre
Paris, 1893: it’s all la Belle-Epoque, le Moulin-Rouge and holalas for Lady Penelope and her new travelling companion Miranda/Dorian (née Eric) as they explore a world of ingénues, enfants terribles and true artistes. But behind the joie de vivre of the boulevards and the laissez-faire of the blasé lurks a dark and menacing je-ne-sais-quoi - or is this déjà-vu? As usual, you can read my blog for (quite a lot of) extra details - mainly how this episode was designed as a sequel-echo-homage of Talons of Weng-Chiang.

Hi everybosy! Here are THREE new episode blurbs from our ongoing Lady Penelope's Odyssey one-on-one campaign! Episode 8: Peace on Venus3800 AD. For nearly a millennium, the planet Venus has lived in military peace, economic prosperity and political independence under the gynocratic rule of the Amazon caste. And then someone tried to assassinate the Prima Dona, shattering the serenity of the Pax Veneris. Can the Time Lady alter history? Should she? A tale of power, gender and red herrings. Episode 9: The Redemption OptionContinuing Dorian’s mini-grand tour of the universe, Lady Penelope comes back to the vibrant, multicultural Myriad of Aldebaran. There, she meets its new saintly icon, the revered Lady of the Sanctuary, Healer of Millions and Savior of Countless Lives, also known as the Rani. Yes, the Rani. Reformed, redeemed and regenerated. Could it be too good to be true? Episode 10: The Quantum PhantomAfter a brief stop on Avalon, Lady Penelope takes Dorian to her beloved Florence, in the beautiful summer of 1894. In a city full of memories, the Time Lady soon finds herself retracing her own steps, through a strange maze of déjà-vu, forgotten moments and echoes of the past. A tale of regrets and choices, featuring Vernon Lee (and a few of her acquaintances). As usual, you can find some extra notes on my blog!

Episode 11: City of DreamsHollywood, 1928: talking pictures vs. silent movies, all-night parties, prohibition and all that jazz! But not everything is fine and dandy in the Tinsel Town, as Lady Penelope is about to find out, following the mysterious suicide of a desperate actress. Behind the walls of the Dream Factory, bright light cast long shadows and dreams can easily turn into nightmares. Sylvie (Penelope's player) wanted to return to the 1920s, one of her favorite periods. After some ruminations about the various episodes I had already set in this timezone, and since Penelope's first 'proper' time travel adventure took place in 1925 Paris (that was City of Chimeras, the fourth episode of our first season - quite some time ago), I decided to go 'full circle' and build the adventure as some kind of reprise / homage (with a catch, of course!) of this 'classic' episode, which already revolved around the black-and-white world of silent movies.
As usual, see my blog for more details on the contents of the episode!

Episode 12: The Three Choices of Penelope It’s R&R time for Penelope and Dorian! The Time Lady takes her new companion to the supremely peaceful and serene world of Atala, among her Ganymedian friends - where she is greeted by dear old friends, some unexpected social developments and the inescapable consequences of her own past choices – as well as the regrets of a previous companion...
An episode of pure roleplaying – with no dice rolls, no Story point expenditures but some very important conversations and decisions, along with the appropriate foreshadowing of the season finale…
This episode also saw the reunion of Penelope and one of her former companions, the Redhead Ganymedian Jeska (think of a blue-skinned, red-haired Leela), who briefly travelled with the Time Lady at the beginning of season 7, before Penelope’s fateful Constantinople regeneration (in episode 7.05) and her subsequent struggle against Fenric.
Lady Penelope’s Odyssey will return in a month or so, with the final three episodes of our twelfth season. Allons-y!

Episode 13: The Red Queen
Back in Lord Christopher Marlowe’s alternate timeline, History has twisted yet again with the wedding of King James of Scotland to the mysterious Red Queen – the new guise of Penelope’s shadow nemesis from the Dark Dimension. As the black clouds of war (literally) gather overhead, the Time Lady has no choice but to walk into her evil double’s deathtrap… Episode 14: Bad Penny
Her hunt for her Dark Dimension shadow clone leads Penelope to an alternate 1978, in a timeline where the Doctor’s TARDIS has been destroyed, UNIT and Torchwood have been merged into a single entity (M.I.7), a big space-time Rift has opened in the heart of London and (for some obscure reason) punk rock never happened. Joining forces with an alternate, earthbound Doctor, the Time Lady prepares for her final duel with her nemesis… Episode 15: Loose Ends (season finale) London, 1978, in an alternate reality. Following her final battle with her Dark Dimension shadow double, the Time Lady must now face the consequences of her victory. How long will her disembodied nemesis stay trapped into the deepest recesses of Penelope’s own mind? And how exactly is she going to heal her companion Dorian, whose soul has been ravaged by her now-captive enemy? A story of farewells and returns, of closures and new beginnings! As usual, see MY BLOG for some extra stuff on these episodes!

The adventure kind of reminds me of IDW comics most recently-wrapped up Star Trek summer event Through the Mirror, which saw last year's Mirror Universe TNG crew invading the Prime Universe and encountering their TNG Counterparts (there was even a reference to the Doctor Who/Star Trek TNG Crossover that came out a couple years ago with them visiting a planet featured in the crossover and mentioning "trouble" there though not directly referencing The Eleventh Doctor, Amy, Rory, or the Cybermen directly). It looks like Penelope had a truly explosive finale this year. Looking forward to what Season 13 will bring for her and what new adventures await!

Hello everyone! The thirteenth season of Lady Penelope's Odyssey has started - with "Roman Mysteries", a trilogy of episodes set in 82 AD. They were a delight to play and the "extended stay" concept (i.e. three separate but interlocked scenarios set in the same time period) worked so well that I probably renew this from time to time, as an alternate approach to the usual space-time hopping. This really allowed us to delve more deeply into the setting and make our Time Lady's "Roman holidays" a memorable experience! Episode 1: Tempus Rerum Imperator (Time, Master of All Things)Since she is in the right place at the right time, the Doctor has asked Penelope to bring his greetings to the Caecilius family, who escaped the Fires of Pompeii three years ago and went on to live happily ever after in Rome, leaving behind them the nightmare of the Pyrovile. But as the Time Lady will soon discover, even aborted empires can cast long, burning shadows… Episode 2: Acta Est Fabula (The Play is Over)Drawn into a web of intrigue and conspiracy at the heart of Emperor Domitian’s entourage, Penelope soon finds herself caught between the plans of various historical personages and the repercussions of her own actions. Now she must find a way to escape the deadly games of the imperial court, while preserving the future of the Empire – and of the Caecilius family… Episode 3: Terra Incognita (Unknown Territory)Britannia, 82 AD. As Roman general Julius Agricola prepares for another campaign against the savage barbarians of Caledonia, Penelope arrives just in time to foil his assassination and save History-as-we-know-it. But even History-as-we-know-it has some unwritten pages, where unsung heroes, time travellers and the Dark Powers of the Earth come into play… dwaitas.blogspot.com/2018/11/season-13-episodes-1-3.html

Episode 4: Turn On, Tune In, Drop OutDorian takes Penelope on a trip to 1967 San Francisco, right in the middle of the Summer of Love. As her companion indulges in the ambient zeitgeist of peace, sex, drugs and rock’n’roll, the Time Lady finds herself transported to another reality, where JFK’s Camelot never fell and psychics are hunted down by the FBI. Welcome to the Altered States of America! As usual, see MY BLOG for some extra notes about this episode! As a great fan of alternate history and Philip K Dick, this one sounds very exciting to me. I'm looking forward to learning more about "the Dissonance." Well I had been ruminating about a Philip K. Dick homage episode for quite some time now but nothing really worked out until the "alternate 1960s USA" idea popped up. Regarding the Dissonance, well, I can enlighten you (a bit ). In Lady Penelope's Odyssey (which diverges from the official DW continuity right after the death of the Tenth Doctor), Gallifrey was brought back from the Time War a couple of seasons ago by the War Chief (who did not survive the experience BTW), using the reconstructed Key to Time. It was a massive, cosmic-scale event which sent equally massive ripples through the Web of Time and the very fabric of reality, causing all sorts of chaotic temporal phenomena... and the Dissonance (formerly known as "the Multiplicity") seems to be the BACKLASH of all this, some sort of potential temporal tsunami threatening to unravel the whole universe (and probably the universe, too). So far, its manifestations have been relatively minor but are clearly increasing in magnitude, foreshadowing a truly cataclysmic event... One of the Dissonance's main effects is that parallel realities are no longer parallel; they have begun to cross each other, causing Inferno-like reality shifts - as in our latest episode, where Penelope's TARDIS (and then Penelope herself) drifted from the "normal" 1967 America to an alternate reality version of it... All this sums up how things currently appear to Penelope and the Doctor in our ongoing campaign... but as our newly-launched season progresses, they will discover that the situation is more complicated than it seems (could something actually control the Dissonance ? etc.).

(Season 13 continues...) Episode 5: Hope UltimaA long time ago, Lady Penelope and Jack Harkness exchanged farewells on the lonely dunes of Boeshane Peninsula. As they parted, he shared with her the Face of Boe’s secret prediction: the Time Lady and the immortal Captain would meet again, one last time, for one last case of cosmic force majeure, for one last, desperate stand. And now this time has come. As usual, see my BLOG for some extra notes about this episode.

Episode 6: WintertimeJanuary 2019. The UK is caught in an unprecedented wave of cold, with snowfalls, ice storms, frozen rivers and the whole gamut of wintry weather phenomena, leaving experts baffled. Only the Torchwood Cardiff team knows the truth behind this aberrant climate shift: it came through the Rift, from a long, long time ago. Winter is coming - time to call the Time Lady! So, despite what I announced last time on my blog (about “taking a break for a few months”), I couldn’t resist the lure of running my own New Year’s Day special (well, sort of, since this was played on the 5th of January) for Lady Penelope – an episode with some nostalgic echoes from the Russell T. Davies era (Torchwood, Cardiff, the Rift…). And despite what the above blurb may suggest, most of the action took place in 1895 (but still in Cardiff), during another of Britain’s “great winters” – at a time where the Cardiff Rift already existed… but NOT the all-too convenient Rift Manipulator! The main antagonist for this story was directly inspired by Kim Newman’s “Time and Relative” Telos novella: primeval, prehistoric Cold as a sentient entity trying to reclaim its lost dominion on our post-Ice Age planet. At first, I had contemplated using the Great Intelligence as my main villain (see HERE) but as I was working with this idea, I kept on ending up with something that felt like a remake of Steven Moffat’s “The Snowmen”, with no real extra element of interest. This episode also gave me a wonderful opportunity to reunite Penelope with her present-day friends at the Cardiff Torchwood Hub, including Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart, one of her very first time-travelling companions… As usual, more "design notes" can be found on my BLOG!

As usual, see my blog for more details, notes etc. You've beaten us to it! One of our TARDIS team, Erin, is a big Eurovision fan. She collects the songs as MP3s, listens to them in the car, follows the semi-finals, the whole nine yards. Every year, then, we have a Eurovision party. (This year was no exception. I can still see the personal score sheets, covered in our notes, sitting on the desk next to me.) I've long thought that I should arrange a Doctor Who roleplaying adventure inspired by Bang-Bang-a-Boom! Great minds think alike! This sounds like it was a lot of fun. I think it's particularly clever that you timed it to coincide with the actual Eurovision Song Contest. Perhaps when I do get around to writing up this module, I'll continue the grand tradition of the Starvox Song Contest?

The Time Lady is back! Perhaps when I do get around to writing up this module, I'll continue the grand tradition of the Starvox Song Contest? Well, be my guest! The episode was set in the 40th century, when the Earth Alliance and the less humano-centric Galactic Federation co-exist. The Starvox contest was a big Federation event and the Earth Alliance was allowed to participate for the first time - diplomatic détente, a first step to building a common future together and all that. But when the Earth Alliance contestant decided NOT to attend (what we call in France "un caprice de diva"), Penelope's companion stepped in as the providential, emergency replacement! The plot also depended on the Contest being broadcast across thousands of worlds via something called the "Hyper-Live" system which gave the interplanetary audience AND the performing contestants all the sensations of a real, live event. (Incidentally, I have absolutely no love for the Eurovision contest, which appears to me as the epitome of kitsch and terrible music - but as far as I'm concerned, THIS was what made it such a fun idea for an adventure...)

Season 13 of our Odyssey continues, with three new episodes:
Episode 8: The Gilded Age New York, 1883. Following the departure of her travelling companion, Lady Penelope is taking a vacation in history, enjoying a glorious Indian summer in Manhattan, attending the inauguration of the Metropolitan Opera and mingling with the Whartonesque locals. And then Time Agent Cyrus Ward appeared out of nowhere, before being shot by a mysterious staser-totting assassin… The holidays are over – and the (temporal) game is afoot.
Episode 9: Passing Ship On her way back to Avalon, Lady Penelope intercepts a distress call from another TARDIS caught in the eye of a vortex storm created by the elusive, ubiquitous Dissonance. Rushing to the rescue, she manages to save the Corsair from certain annihilation – only to discover that the renegade Time Lord was actually chasing her on behalf of the new masters of Gallifrey. And then the Corsair starts to die, spinning the regeneration roulette once again…
Episode 10: Trial of a Time Lady As the conflict between the two Eyes of Harmony escalates, Lady Penelope arrives on Gallifrey to face the Tribunal Supreme of the Time Lords on charges of Grand Conspiracy and Generally Being a Temporal Nuisance. Will the Time Lady and the disembodied Professor Chronotis uncover the identity of the mysterious Black Eminence before the final verdict? With the fate of Avalon hanging in the balance, it’s time for some serious courtroom drama…

Episode 11: The Eye of MadnessThe Master is back! Coming from yet another alternate timeline, trapped in our continuum by the Dissonance, the Doctor’s nemesis is now intent on becoming the sole Master of Time… which, of course, implies the destruction of all other Time Lords! Following the shutdown of Gallifrey’s and Avalon’s Eyes of Harmony, Lady Penelope and the Corsair must track the power-mad arch-villain through the vortex… The chase is on – but Time is running out! Episode 12: Scar(ed)y CatsFollowing her brush with the Master and his Cybermen allies, still awaiting news from Avalon, Lady Penelope lands her TARDIS in Ulthar, the out-of-time city of her friends the Greflings. She soon learns that something dark and very nasty is threatening the very existence of the adorable Quantum Cats… a menace known as the Kitlings! A tale of secret origins and feline paradoxes, featuring yet another ancient, half-mad Time Lord renegade! Episode 12 gave me the opportunity to indulge into some retcon fun about the Catkind (e.g. Brannigan, the Sisters of Plenitude etc.) and one of my earliest creations for the campaign, the Greflings, also known as the Quantum Cats. See MY BLOG for more details on those adorable creatures and their whole convoluted origin story...

Episode 13: The Darkest HourThe fall of Avalon is at hand. The home of the free Time Lords is under attack! The Master has breached the quantic gates, opening the way for hundreds of Cybermen, who are now wreaking havoc on the once safe haven created by Penelope and the Doctor. As Jack Harkness, a newly-regenerated Doctor and the other valiant defenders prepare for the last stand, the Time Lady must evacuate the entire civilian population before it is too late... Episode 14: The Hand of HarmonyAvalon has endured. Lives have been lost – but the Darkest Hour is now over. The Cyber-Master* and his legions of steel have been defeated. But what about Gallifrey, still shut off from the vortex and the rest of the universe? With the Dissonance under control, it is now time for Avalon to extend the Hand of Harmony to the Time Lords of the Capitol, with Lady Penelope as the peacemaker. A tale of power plays, diplomatic intrigue and hidden agendas. * See MY BLOG for more details on the Cyber-Master!

So, our 13th season ended yesterday evening, with a very moving finale... Episode 15: The Music of Time
On the heels of their uneasy reunion, Penelope and her former travelling companion Dorian go back to the Paris of the belle époque - only to discover that the eccentric musical genius Erik Satie, who once graced her TARDIS with a private piano recital, has disappeared from Montmartre… and from History itself! Did he even exist at all? In order to save the unique composer from oblivion, the Time Lady will have to create a temporal Dissonance of her own. See MY BLOG for more details on how and why this episode took a very different turn and mood from what I originally had in mind... for the better!

Bavaria in 1868? Ludwig and Wagner? It was tempting - but I went for the whole "small quaint town Christmassy feel". Perhaps another time? So anyway, here is the blurb: Lady Penelope’s Odyssey is back for a new season, starting with a Christmas (well, technically, New Year’s Eve) Special!Xmas Special: Christmas in Red
Advent 1869. Penelope has decided to spend a traditional Bavarian Christmas in the charming town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, with its bustling Christmas market, medieval cobbled streets and quaint local legends… But the Time Lady finds herself on the trail of TWO mysterious creatures: the ancient Red Rider and the all-new Red Devil of Rothenburg! Just a quick word about a quick structural adjustment: for purely conceptual reasons that will become clear once we resume play, the aforementioned Xmas Special is no longer considered to be Episode 1 of Season 14, but a Holiday Special located between the end of Season 13 and the start of Season 14 - which should start in two or three weeks. Hello everyone! Here they are - the blurbs of our fourteenth season's first three episodes! SEASON 14
Episode 1: The Shadow KingAs Lady Penelope prepares to leave the court of her lover, King Fenn of the Tanu, Little Nuada, Princess Dana Ashworth’s 3-year old son and Fenn’s adopted heir, is suddenly robbed of his psyche and lifeforce by an invisible enemy. Penelope must race against time to prevent the Dying of the Light and save the child from the clutches of the mysterious Shadow King… Episode 2: The Companions of DemnosWhile enjoying a short trip to 1956 Paris, Penelope once again crosses the path of the Comte de Saint-Germain! Soo, the Time Lady and the dear old (more or less) immortal rogue join forces to thwart the nefarious plans of the mysterious Companions of Demnos, prevent an atomic disaster and defeat the terrible Helix Mandragora before it changes history! Mais oui! Episode 3: The Emperor’s TalismanOn her quest to find the scattered remnants of King Fenn’s psyche, Lady Penelope arrives to Charlemagne’s palace in the spring of 803 AD, with the Comte de Saint-Germain at her side… just a few days before a terrible earthquake ravages Aachen! Are the time travellers ready to face the Judgment of God? A tale of court intrigue, historical destinies and human ordeals. As usual, you can find some extra notes and stuff on my blog: dwaitas.blogspot.com/2020/02/season-14-episodes-1-3.htmlThanks a lot to Catsmate for providing me with all the useful Mandragora Helix information, which allowed me to wrap things up quite nicely!
