Ok this is something where I think the answer is obvious I just want to confirm it. If for some reason a trait that gives or removes story points is lost during play e.g. a negative trait that adds 2 story points is overcome through good role playing over several adventures and removed from the character sheet you do adjust the story points right? That is a negative trait that adds 2 is overcome you lower your current and total story points by 2 and a positive one that lowers them is lost through trauma you gain those points back to your current and total values?

That's how I've always played it.

I would have to agree with that interpretation of the rules surrounding traits. In essence, the story points are bound to the trait. If a trait is lost or gained, so are the story points.

Good I just wasn't sure if it affected current points as well as total ones thanks for the replies.

Wanted to update the posting hour count in the hopes people would notice I'd changed my view. I found this in the time travellers companion on TARDIS growth.
NOTE: When adding a Trait through Advancement Points, you may ignore any Story Point costs associated with that Trait. Also, when improving an already existing Trait, you need only pay the difference in points, not the full amount, so going from Minor to Major in a single Trait only costs (3-2 =) 1 Advancmement Point, not 3.
So it seems that at least with TARDIS'S and possibly with characters if you purchase a trait or earn it after advancement you aren't in fact meant to apply story costs afterall. This probably apply's both way's i.e. a negative trait wont add them if you aquire it and a positive trait wont lower them.
