A snippet from the headlines that seems weird enough for a Who game.
The small rural town of Wangaratta in north-eastern part of the Australian state of Victoria is experiencing an odd problem. Residents are under siege by a fast-growing giant tumbleweed known as panicum effusum (hairy panic) that is piling up outside their houses, covering lawns and blocking doors and windows. And even covering houses as it can grow metres overnight. While outbreaks are pretty common in Australia, this one is particularly virulent.
It seems straight of of a '50s B-movie, or an episode of Doctor Who....
Shades of the Krynoid (did a pod land in the Outback and mutate native plants?) or perhaps sinister experiments in remote cattle stations. Or the weird foam from Fury From the Deep; can strange tumbleweed monsters (like the animated scarecrows that served the Family of Blood) be next?
Oh and the grass is somewhat toxic, though usually only to ruminants.
