Looks like a sort of general expansion. I get the feeling that this will be something in between "Aliens & Creatures" and the 8th Doctor Source book's full campaign of Adventures, plus a bunch of lore to use like there was in the TTC.
I hope they come out with a Gallifrey Sourcebook (like the one FASA was planning) and maybe a setting independent version of the Vortex System with hooks for "Not Star Wars (with beam sword stats)" and "Not Stargate"

Here's my uneducated guess: It's an adventure anthology. Volume 1 collects various existing PDF and con-only adventures. Future volumes will feature new material.

That's my guess too, a miscellany of material. Scenarios, seeds, gadgets, settings, characters.I hope they come out with a Gallifrey Sourcebook (like the one FASA was planning) and maybe a setting independent version of the Vortex System with hooks for "Not Star Wars (with beam sword stats)" and "Not Stargate" Or even a generic time travel sourcebook.

Disappointing?! This is all that I wanted, and I'm very excited by this release. What our campaign needs is modules. Between the three of us who rotate the game master position, we're adapting a wide range of materials for use as adventures, including Doctor Who novels and modules from other games. There's no question, however, that the modules written by Cubicle 7 for the Doctor Who RPG are the best possible source material. I was hoping that they would get around to releasing a few new adventures, maybe, once the Doctor sourcebooks were done, but Christmas has come early! I'll be snatching this one up... And it's great to know that other volumes are on the way.

That's great! And I really don't think we'd need another "time travel supplement", given the width, depth and scope of the remarkable "Time Traveller's Companion"...

And it's great to know that other volumes are on the way. I heartily agree! As much as it's fun to adapt modules and also to create them from scratch, this is just the resource the game needed—not least as it's such a time-consuming process to put them together. I'd discussed this with the Cubicle 7 guys at the Doctor Who Festival just last month and they promised that something was in the works, but I had no idea that this release was so imminent. Here's hoping it's the first of many.

Agreed. I've been hoping for some adventure collections for some time, so this is just what I've been wanting.

Agreed. I've been hoping for some adventure collections for some time, so this is just what I've been wanting. Same here. I've bought it and have already taken some ideas from it for future use. If in one of these volumes has a complete campaign like the 8th Doctor Sourcebook (especially if its a very long one, say 24-30ish) I will be super chuffed

For those who are interested, this contains four adventures. I'll try and avoid spoilers here, but if you're a player as opposed to a GM, I'd suggest skipping this post just in case.
"Ghost Engines" begins with a modern day investigation into disappearances near an old railway tunnel, but soon leads into the depths of Victorian London and a confrontation with an alien menace that can reach through time itself. The story would sit comfortably with any of the Doctors from the 4th onwards. It also ostensibly features the Paternoster Gang, although suggestions are made for switching in alternative Victorian characters such as Jackson Lake or Jago and Litefoot instead.
"The Northern Knights" sees the players arrive in 16th Century England, where an unusual plague is affecting the local populace. The adventure features an opportunity to interact with a couple of important historical figures and a threat that could derail history. It also involves an enemy that players passingly familiar with Dr Who (even just the new series) will probably identify very early on. Unfortunately, the way they're used here - that is, the way they act and the trappings they have adopted, just don't sit well with me, and come across as a bit silly.
"Schrodinger's Expedition" takes place aboard a bizarre space station, where a scientific research team work to uncover it's secrets. This is probably my favourite of the adventures as it features an unusual setting and quite an original situation. I think it could work well with any of the Doctors and is one I'll definitely be using. I don't want to say too much beyond that, its hard to talk about this one without spoiling it too much.
"The Tomb Of Cleopatra" has a present day archeological dig uncover the purported burial place of the eponymous queen, but a gilded objet d'art indicates the presence of an old enemy in ancient Alexandria. Of all the adventures here, this one is most closely tied to the New Series, particularly the Eleventh Doctor. It is also probably the only adventure that doesn't work as well without having the Doctor and his companions as player characters. Similarly, while suggestions are given for reworking the underlying plot outside of these constraints, I'm not sure that works too well in reality.
One criticism I would level at this point - the same enemy is used in two of the adventures (albeit in slightly different ways), and the enemy in another has a similar modus operandi (to the point where they may as well have used the originals). Also, the first two adventures share a common basic plot element. I think I would have preferred more variety, and its an odd choice to include these in the same book. You wouldn't want to run these back to back, or things might feel a bit samey.
In closing, I'd say Ghost Engines and Schrodinger's Expedition are the best of the offerings here. The Northern Knights is ok, but I'd remove the sillier aspects, and I can't say I'm overly fond of the Tomb of Cleopatra, but again, that's entirely my opinion and others may find it has much more utility in their games. Overall though, its a good start to what will hopefully be a continuing series of adventure books.
