Thought it would be impossible to keep up the quality of the last two episodes but I've gladly been proven wrong. Every episode this season has been better than even the best of series 7 or 8. I generally consider season 5 to have been the best of the revived series but if they can keep this up it'll have serious competition.

These will also mature a bit and I genuinely think we are watching what will be classics.

Going into this episode, I was slightly concerned that the Radio Times described it as "derivative". I guess in the sense that it was a traditional "Base Under Siege" story, that's true. But how it used that setting is very good. I'm really glad that we're back to 2-part stories, as it allows them to breathe more.
This series is shaping up to be one of the best of recent years.

Great episode! My niece, wife, and I were quite impressed... and also a little annoyed that we have to wait another week. I can live with that if that is my only problem. I didn't vote for "amazing" because I want to see the finished product, but it was a very strong episode.

One thing struck me; it's set in the 22nd century, before or after the Dalek invasion? Or has that been erased from canon?

The Dalek invasion of Earth story was set no earlier than 2154 (the Doctor saw a calendar for that year shortly after landing in the first episode of the serial). Plenty of time for the daleks to arrive between the two dates.

Far superior to The Magicians Apprentice. I feel that this might have been a better choice to open the new series. I did like that episode as part one of a two parter. But I was giving it credit for being able to get better in part two.
This story carried me through on it's own. I still can't wait for the next episode, but it won't have to pull this episode up for me to call it good.

Agreed, though I think it lacked the pizazz for a season opener.

But it is an opportunity to rerun classic stories. You say that like they hadn't been doing that since the beginning. DW has always had issues with continuity. The difference now is that they have a slightly better excuse than 'someone lied'. Besides, past Dalek military actions would have been targeted during the Time War. Heck, from the perspective of the Daleks the Doctor started the Time War in the story "Genesis of the Daleks" but the mere (albeit temporary) existence of the DARDIS 1 in the Chase indicates that the Daleks were fighting the Time War during the Doctor's 1st incarnation. Basically, just try to remember that the Time War was fought along the lines of how the River Song/Doctor courtship would have gone if they met less linearly. Try to imagine that the plot of the 8th novel "War of the Daleks" was a viable tactic. Now imagine it on a scale comparable to WW1. The Time War should be terrifying; my biggest problem with how they've treated it on screen is Sky Trenches. Cause it sounds stupid. 1: It is, after all, reverse engineered Time Lord technology.

Not War of the Daleks, please! Though actually I'd prefer to see more intelligent use of time travel too.

I said it was viable, not advisable. There is a difference between being able to do something and having it be the right thing to do.

True, good for a moral dilemma of the "can we risk damaging the timestream by saving X" sort. Or for the Time War how much can reality be altered before it all starts to unravel, i.e. can an alteration to history to win a battle (say) be reversed, and then that reversal also be reversed. Getting into Changewar territory though and Who's always seemed opposed to such alterations.
