In my campaign, I had first thought about Victoria Smurfit (see a few messages above) but I finally went for LENA HEADEY... Not just because of Queen Cersei in "Game of Thrones", but because of her roles in "Dredd" and "The Midas Box", which provide nice photos. She also sports an interesting eyepatch in the recent "zombified" version of "Pride & Prejudice"...

cool waht was she doing that the players had to stop [/quote] Ah... to cut a long story short: she had been hiding in E-space for years, where she had built an invincible galactic empire ruled by her own "son", a carefully bio-engineered boy-king with psychic powers and serious ego problems. The military forces of the empire were led by another Time Lord renegade, the War Chief, whose help she had enlisted after helping him through some very difficult regeneration problems. The only faction opposing their hegemony were the Tharils, enlightened by the legacy of Romana's reign (and eventually besieged inside Warriors' Gate). As an aside, when Lady Penelope (the player-character) first met her, she didn't look like Lena Headey at all but like Shohreh Aghdashloo in "The Expanse": ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV5BMjE4MDQ5NTY4M15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwNjM5MzM2NzE@._V1_.jpgSo how could Penelope manage to beat such a formidable foe, you ask? Well, essentially, by allying with the Tharils and turning her son and the War Chief against her (or, if you wish, offering them a way out of the Rani's domination). And now the Rani, having been handed to the Shadow Proclamation, is serving a life sentence in a space prison and the War Chief (after quite a few ordeals) is a probationary member of the alliance of the last Time Lords (led by the Doctor himself)... Just saw zebaroth's post from a couple of weeks ago, and Claudia Black is a good choice! Especially if you combine the icy personality of Aeryn Sun in the early first season of Farscape with the total lack of ethics of her character on Stargate...

There's a couple of good ones. My all time favorite fancasting is Michelle Yeoh.
Though another option is the marvelous Jaime Murray.

I actually think Catherine O’ Hara in the vein of his role in A Series of Unfortunate Events television series could make for a good incarnation of The Rani.
You could play her akin to a bored genius. And one who clearly is just indifferent to it all. The sort who if it was revealed to her that the Doctor and The Master survived the Time War would merely remark “Of course they did”
Naturally, she’d recover her enthusiasm by the end of the adventure or this could merely be all a facade she put on as part of some grander plan.

Claudia Black could act an interesting version of The Rani. Been a fan of her since FarScape.
Friendly Greetings, Horus Lupercal.

I am also considering Claudia Christian from Babylon 5 as she is so good in villain roles.

Megan Leitch, who played the younger Linea in Stargate (and Mulder's sister in The X-Files), is an interesting choice.

Now that I think of it; how about Amanda Tapping? Letting her play mad scientist would be awesome. I have been a Stargate SG-1 fan since the beginning and she would make an AWESOME incarnation of The Rani.
Friendly greetings, Horus Lupercal.

If we talk about actors from other Sci-Fi shows, I just had Michelle Hurd come to mind, from "Picard". I think she might make a great Rani too, especially if you look at a villainous preformance she did on the TV show "Charmed".

I was thinking Jamie Murray from Warehouse 13 since she played an alternative version of H.G Wells would make an interesting choice

So, how about a male Rani? The Raja?

So, how about a male Rani? The Raja? For some reason, I could see Sir Ben Kingsley in such a role.

There is some temptation for me to say Anjli Mohindra or Mina Anwar as it would be fitting that The Rani has a connection to the other Rani.
