Awesome. The Rani is all about attitude which Grace Jones captures. I will have to use this version in my game.

In my adventure, "The Good, The Bad, and The Rani," the disease she's caught is causing her to rapidly age and burn through regenerations (Which don't cure it.), so she's been through at least three since she was last encountered. I head-cast Imogen Poots as the most recent incarnation.

Why not go with the gender swap theme and cast a male actor? Siobhain Redmond is pretty good in the part. Nina Toussaint-White if reusing prior actors is continuing. Or Anjili Mohindra in a few years to confuse fans...

Grace Jones is an excellent choice! The Rani featured in our campaign in an adventure entitled "The Origin of Evil." Our version is portrayed by Gillian Anderson.

Of course, I was planning on using only the "blue-dress-but-no-kukri" images Thanks for the "Strucker" tip BTW - a less extravagant, more "totalitarian scientist" outfit than my pseudo-victorian choice, but hey, after all, we are living in the Age of Missy (not that I particularly like the new incarnation of the Master but that's another matter entirely).

Glad I could help. Her portrayal of Cruella De Vil might also be of interest. I do agree about the Age of Missy, it seems a rather silly style. But hey...

Yes, there's no reason that the Rani couldn't regenerate into a man, however, for the kind of cold-hearted bitchery needed to play her, let's face it, you NEED a woman.

So, should a new Rani have some lackeys of her own? If so what kind? A few skilled (Companion grade) Minions, or a horde of Mooks (alien, mind-controlled, robotic or bio-engineered?
The reason I ask is that I was thinking of the Monk/Time Meddler while I was travelling, and specifically the unpublished FASA scenario "The Valley of Dread" which would have had him meddling with the British intervention in Spain in 1807-8. I was inspired to come up with a set of minions for him as part of an idea for a campaign that'd see him meddling in various events of the Napoleonic wars.

I think these guys would fit perfectly as minions for the Rani. Minions. Then something more updated for the Rani herself. Rani.

Gomez as the Rani? Naaah.
In my opinion, Michelle Gomez is the best Master since Roger Delgado. (And I love each and every one of them!) She's in the right role.

Sorry, but I have to disagree. If she is actually The Master, the way she is playing it is doing a disservise to those who played The Master before.
Previously a suave, sophisticated, megelomanaic. Even the incarnations that were completely insane had some class and sophistication. Now Missy "the Master" is a completely lovestruck psychotic looney. Seriously?!?!
Anyway, never bought into the whole Politically Correct Genderswap thing in the first place.
Missy is lying. She is The Rani, not The Master. At least in my campaign.

Heh. I did an Aliens crossover where the Rani was trying to steal the biotech secrets of the Engineers from Prometheus.
While she looked like Kate Omara, one of the surprise twists at the end was that the Rani was an "Shalka" style android [her original body turned out to have been destroyed during the Time War]. After all you can't do a good Alien crossover without a surprise android!

When I seen for the first time the Rani (And like I'm french, more recently than for you), I immediately think of the Goa'uld Nirrti (Jacqueline Samuda) or of Diana (Jane Badler) in V.

I think she's like Linea in Stargate an utterly amoral biological scientist. I based the evil version of Nyssa on her too.

But for alternatives, Raja is what immediately springs to mind, though it may be obvious to players that it's actually the Rani. Another option might be Shah (again, a bit obvious). I quite like Khan, as it's used as a name as well as a title, and might keep the Rani's identity secret for a bit longer. Among other things, it was a rank of nobility bestowed upon honoured Muslims in India by the Moguls and later by the British - but it's lower in status than king or prince, so it might be beneath the Rani to use it.
