Alternate title Attack of the Resurrection of the Remembrance of the Cybermen.
We started this game on Friday, with me GM-ing (mostly, I had some help and may miss future sessions). It's inspired by a couple of Big Finish audioplays I've listened to recently, some old sci-fi ideas plus the idea of mixing Doctors and Companions. I'll post more details and stats as the game progresses.
Dramatis Personae:
NPCs.
Doctor6: a later version of the Doctor's sixth incarnation, more like that from the Big Finish audios (i.e. less awful clothes, stable personality). Travelling alone when he arrives in London.
Zachery: an original character, well not based on any from Who I've freelyripped off borrowed ideas from other material. He's the owner of a local bookshop/cafe that's surprisingly popular with the schoolkids. He knows a lot more than he lets on and an agenda of his own.
PCs.
Adam: a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma. Actually a teenager from 2009 who was transported to 1986 by a strange confluence of events effecting the time stream. Slightly paranoid about the whole experience, he's managed to survive by a small amount of crime, a little forgery and some foreknowledge.
Evelyn Smythe: a middle-aged historian with a mild chocolate addiction. She’s a friend of Barbara Chesterton (who’s abroad with her husband) doing some local research. The voice of reason.
Ace: an eighties teenager who'd found something interesting in the school basement and was experimenting with it. Hot temper, short fuse and a fondness for explosives.
Sharon Davies: a school friend of Ace, with a Dark Secret even she’s not aware of.
Both girls are interested in the strange incidents in and around the school.
Joanna: a student teacher (maths) doing a classroom placement; she’s the daughter of two former Cole Hill teachers both of whom are now lecturers at Oxford. She believes that Evelyn's 'research' is an excuse to watch her for her parents and rather resents this.
Setting:
Cole Hill comprehensive school in London. Early in the autumn term of 1986.
I was unaware of the rampant speculation regarding what kind of school Cole Hill was until I looked for info on it.
Overarching plot.
All irregularities will be handled by the forces controlling each dimension.
Too much messing about with time has caused problems with the fabric of reality. As Sapphire and Steel are unavailable the Doctor's going to have to figure out what's going on and fix things. Preferably without triggering any of the potential paradoxes lying around.
Basically four time machines, the TARDIS (multiple visits), the Dalek Time Controller (1963, Remembrance), the Dalek Time Corridor (earlier in 1986, Resurrection) and the captured human built time ship used by the Cybermen, have stretched the fabric of space-time rather thin. Things are leaking through and Cole Hill is the epicentre of the weirdness. The Time Controller exists in each era and is triggering without proper control (hence Adam's little journey) and it's wormhole is flapping around.
All this causes turbulence in the Vortex, and attracts the Doctor.
Complications.
(None of which have manifested in game as yet)
Lutton and his lackeys.
Commander Lytton survived the events of a few months earlier (Resurrection of the Daleks more or less as per canon). He's carved a niche in the London underworld as has a small group of "trusted" retainers, plus his pair of Dalek clone troopers. He wants off Earth and has a plan to achive this. He's mostly unaware of the problems with time and knows nothing about the 1963 incident but knows that the Cybermen are present and roughly what their plans are.
He does have a fair arsenal of small arms, terrestrial and offworld, including explosives, grenades and Dalek bio-chemical weapons.
Cybermen
They want to stop the destruction of Mondas, scheduled for about two months time. They're unaware of the Dalek incidents, the presence of the Dalek technology (though they'd happily scavenge it) or the blips in time (their technology is too primitive).
They have a base in the sewers and are attempting to amass the equipment necessary to disrupt human resistance and aid their Mondasian colleagues.
UNIT
Know quite a lot. The Shoreditch Incident, the nature of the Doctor, the Daleks and that time travel in possible and was involved in 1963. They also have significant forces that could be deployed, if anyone knew they were needed and convinced the authorities.
A wildcard
Surviving fascists
The Shoreditch Incident was 23 years previously, some of Ratcliffe's supporters may be around.
Recognition.
As Ace (at least) was present with the Doctor in 1963 someone may recognise her.
Background.
'Going postal' is in the news after Patrick Sherrill goes on a murder spree (20AUG) as is the disappearance of a London estate agent, Suzy Lamplugh, who's been missing since 28JUL after meeting a 'Mr. Kipper'.
The Lake Nyos disaster in Cameroon has caused more than 2,000 deaths and is still incompletely understood (21AUG). The Royal wedding frenzy (Prince Andrew married Sarah Ferguson on 23JUL) has mostly abated and there are a lot of unsold souvenirs being dumped. The Stalker affair rumbles on, with the former deputy chief constable cleared of allegations of misconduct that many believe were politically motivated and linked to his investigations in Norther Ireland.
In sports the news is dominated by the violence between football supporters on an Amsterdam bound ferry in August) and the record transfer fee for Gary Lineker (£2.75 million, Everton to FC Barcelona).
However to schoolchildren the new GCSE exams are of more concern.

- He knows more because he’s lived through these events previously. He’s also aware that interaction between himself and Adam (his earlier self) would be dangerous

- Aided, though he's unaware of it, by Zachery.

- She wasn’t part of the ‘original’ course of events, Zachery meddled with history to create her.
