building the tardis at the 1st game with the players do you think this is a good idea
would you do it in a game. witch group of tardis models of the 4 listed in tttc would lit them pick from. do you think this would help the players get in to the game more or would they think it was dumb.

Maybe you should ask your players? lol
Don't mean to be unhelpful or rude, but I feel like they would be the best people to answer your question. I personally would think something like that would be fun, but I don't know if everyone else would.
As for the specific Tardis models, I can't offer anything on that because I don't have TTC.

If you spend the first game designing characters, designing their TARDIS too makes sense.

Choosing from a number of models is fine. If you wanted to go further, you could make show them a series of TARDIS traits and only allow them a certain number (each player gets one choice, for example). This would create a unique TARDIS that, like the Doctor's old Type 40, wouldn't work very well, recreating the ramshackle TARDIS trips of the series.
In other words, no one picked the chameleon circuit in the "Doctor Who campaign".
