Hello, new to the board. Long time fan and gamer who finally jumped in with the 50th An. book. I did a search for a thread on this but can't seem to find anything in the results.
Why can't you play more than one Doctor? It has been done several times throughout the series and the book even presents three versions of him.
Has anyone played with more than one Doctor at the table?
Thanks!

Hello, welcome aboard! Nice to see the anniversary book bringing people to DWAITAS.
This does seem like something that the "who plays the Doctor?" sidebar in this version could have addressed, at least with a throwaway line.
It's something I'd only really do sparingly, as the Doctor is pretty powerful and multiple versions of him would also be pretty samey in terms of expertise and approach, unless you play up their differences very heavily as multi-Doctor adventures often do.
I haven't actually done it at the table, but I have had multiple Time Lord player characters in one game - and I've considered a one-off adventure where everybody plays a version of the Doctor.

I definitely could see it as a one shot at least. I think it just seemed lacking to just say only one doctor and skip over all the times there have been more than one in a show.

Later this year, the campaign I'm currently involved in will feature a regeneration as the player and game master switch roles. After this occurs, we fully intend to run a multi-Doctor story at some point in the future.

Grab the Time Traveller's Companion. There is a whole page on handling multiple incarnation adventures. In fact, in an early version of the supplement, I had a multi-Doctor adventure planned out that would take 13 episodes/adventures to sort out. Unfortunately, it involved a time eating house/TARDIS and The Doctor's Wife came out shortly thereafter, so it was scrapped.
I did right another version but I can't think of where it ended up at the moment. I'll look about...

Wow, Pertwee has the precognition trait!! I would love to see that adventure. If it ever comes out as an adventure module, I'd totally buy it (just thought I'd put that out there in case the powers that be need a bit of a nudge)....

I've posted up what I had written at the time the idea was scrapped. You can find it (for a limited time) at this link: www.dropbox.com/s/adz8fgrw1wzlk1m/TTC%20Campaign%20Book.pdfThe setup is complete, with the entirety of the first episode laid out for 2 to 11 Doctors. If you decide to use more than 6 of them, it may well take 2 episodes. But from that point on, you're on your own developing the various floors of the house and the adventures in the Time Zones they are (quite literally) rooted in. To help, I've included the template I created so that other writers could write some of the adventures is in between the intro/ basement and the finale, with instructions on the sort of things you need to fill out. The house can be as many floors as you need, but the total number of sessions should be 1 for the intro (cliffhanger - entering the basement), +1 for the basement if you have a lot of Doctors whose intros need resolving, 1 for the series finale and as many middle floors as you need to fill out a series of 1,2 or 3 episode adventures. I highly suggest you split each floor's adventure into 2 parts so you can have a cliffhanger for each one, and then insert a massive three-parter just near the finale to really develop the threat of the house to massive proportions before revealing the truth behind it. Two of the planned adventures involved a boy in the Victorian Era, who would later grow up to fight in WWI era, so you meet him on one floor and then re-enter his life on the next. This was supposed to be a point of Coincidox in which the root seeks out his location in the WWI period due to his enhanced Atron Energy signature, which he only picked up after the players interfered in the Victorian era, the floor which sprouted from the WWI Era after having sought out the energy of someone who wouldn't get the energy until the Time Lords interfered on the second floor well after the first came into existence and long before the House reached out to pull the TARDIS in in the first place. Confused? That's a coincidox for you. I may fill this out later for an independent release that is compatible for DWAITAS, but right now, I'm very busy and very burnt out on the RPG industry, so feel free to use the framework to create your own 'Key to Time' sort of season for your game. Just let me know how it goes. I'd love to hear how you used it...

We appreciate your posting it, and this may just form the basis for an upcoming series in my game!

Feel free to use the framework to create your own 'Key to Time' sort of season for your game. Just let me know how it goes. I'd love to hear how you used it... Three Doctors. Three timeframes. One monstrous threat. It’s time to bring down the house."The House That Ate Time" united the three Doctors starring in our ongoing Doctor Who roleplaying campaign, The Dark Dimension, for their first multi-Doctor epic. Played over the course of three game sessions, this was undeniably the high point of our campaign thus far, an unforgettable story that brought together many different characters, settings, and villains in weird and wonderful ways. It's the game table equivalent of "The Day of the Doctor!" Our thanks to Pertwee for making it all possible. You can read more about our interpretation of this epic adventure in this thread.
