While in most cases I appreciate that trying to give the fans everything they want can be a terrible idea (look at Journey's End for example), I think the 50th anniversary is the one time where it's exactly the right thing to do. Personally, I don't care if the storyline is just a flimsy shell to hold things together: an anniversary episode should be about celebrating the past and should have fan-service gushing out of every orifice.
I still also find it a bit baffling that they keep going on about how this is going to be the biggest year ever for Doctor Who, even though it has far less episodes (not even a full season). Do they expect we'll all just spend the summer sitting around staring at commemorative postage stamps?

Whatever is happenning that we don't already know all the details of, it will have to be exceptional to live up to the hype.

While there is always the possibility that they are keeping things under their hat, it does seem a bit weird to have such a reduced Doctor presence than one might expect.
But I still think there's no point being disappointed in something we haven't even seen yet.

I certainly hope that the BBC are just being extremely secretive. If the episode doesn't at least feature some stock footage of the classic Doctors (and I still hope that we get Susan) I'll be dissapointed. That should be what the 50th is all about.

I guess if they had brought the show back in the fiftieth anniversary year it would have had an impact. As it is its now in the eighth year of the revival and Auntie might be thinking that Jo Public may not be that bothered. We'll see-stow the moaning-at least we have a show to comment on.
