So, with the unlimited casting budget of an RPG session available to you ... Who is playing your timelord(s)? Who is playing your companions? Who is playing the part of the big bad? For me, I've got an NPC timelord who can only be played by the man I really, really, really wanted to be Doctor 11: And an equally lovely and competent companion lined up ... And, for the top rank in villainy, the incomparable ... Who is playing the roles in your game(s)?

Isn't that pretty much the whole cast of Strange?

Isn't that pretty much the whole cast of Strange? Coincidentally, it's 2/3 of them. Richard Coyle has long been at the top of my 'Doctor wish list', and Ian Richardson (sadly no longer with us) was born to be a top of the line Who villain. Ever since Francis Urquhart I've envisaged him as the smoothest talking Master that never was. And Samantha Janus is OK, but she's no Peta (Nikita, Mina Harker) Wilson. But what about you? Who do you have in mind for your top heroes and villains? edit: Holy crap, post 200 and I'm a Torchwood Operative. Does this mean I have to adopt a Welsh accent and/or shag everything that moves? ;D

I have a hard time coming up with people for these sort of things, but I'll tell you, I always wanted to see Leo McKern as the Doctor. Alas, he is also no longer with us... David Warner as either the Doctor or The Master... And I liked Mark Gatiss' turn as the Master on audio. He's also got that smooth voice that would work well for chilling effect. As far as companions go... I have no top choices at the moment...

Richard Coyle has long been at the top of my 'Doctor wish list' ... Same here! When word leaked that Eccleston would be leaving sooner than later, I really wanted either Coyle or Alan Davies (Jonathan Creek) to be 10... May have to cast him myself! And as his archnemesis... Richard Ayoade. Yes, Richard Ayoade. And he must do his Saboo voice in the role, not his Dean Learner persona... Don't let me near actual casting. I'm completely serious. ;D

McKern was a hell of an actor. Whilst probably most well known for Horace Rumpole, he still had a fine career. I particularly liked him as Number 2 in The Prisoner, though possibly because I only recently watched the Prisoner again It would certainly be a bold departure from 9/10, that's for sure ... It's about time the Doctor totally rocked a pocket watch

It's about time the Doctor totally rocked a pocket watch I always liked him, from the first time I saw the Prisoner or even The Mouse that Roared. I never got to see too much Rumpole, but the few episodes I did get to see have now made him irrevocably the voice of Rumpole when I read the books. I really like the idea of taking the Doctor back to a older body... That is an outstanding picture by the way! Thanks for finding it!

Hullo, Kaemaril, Richard Coyle has long been at the top of my 'Doctor wish list', and Ian Richardson (sadly no longer with us) was born to be a top of the line Who villain. Ever since Francis Urquhart I've envisaged him as the smoothest talking Master that never was. I've adored Richard Coyle ever since his work on Coupling, and have caught him since then in both post- and pre-that series work. Since that series was made by Steven Moffatt, perhaps we'll see Coyle in DW now...

We cast all the PCs and many of the NPCs for my BUFFY game. We've made it a rule to only cast people a TV show could conceivably afford to cast. Special guest stars may be popular actors. This gave us some really interesting and good casting choices and gave it an air of plausibility. I expect we'll follow the same pattern for Who.

The Professor - in his Second Incarnation, he the reason the Doctor gets so irritated with Ace when she calls him 'Professor'. Gunnar Ericson - a Viking Chieftain, his hatred for 'Trolls' (Sontarans) is legendary. His travels with the Professor has led to him having a form of 'Temporal Invulnerability' (think Captain Scarlet). 10-D, a self aware Android (for want of a better description) that the Professor got lumbered with in 2384 on the colony planet "New Uttoxeter".

These are the pics I've been thinking about using for potential characters/NPCs. The Time Lord Character(s): Robert Preston (from The Last Starfighter) Other Time Lords or incarnations of the same Time Lord (image sources unknown) Potential companions: A nurse from 1918 (played by Clara Bow) A stunt pilot from 1939 (image source unknown) Serving girl from late 17th century Port Royal, Jamaica (played by Barbara Carrera) A nightclub singer from 1990s Singapore (played by Gong Li)

How about either Stephen Fry or David Suchet as The Doctor? To throw a few interesting choices out there.

Chello! Of course, the man has been in everything, even doing the voice of the good Doctor a couple of times, but how about David Warner: EDIT: I forgot to add for a renegade Time Lord or even a younger incarnation of the Master, Rufus Sewell:

I always thought David Warner would make a good Doctor (or another Time Lord) as well. As for another name that has been mentioned, I could see Leo McKern playing a Time Lord Cardinal or perhaps the High Lord President. I know back in the day, I based one of my character's incarnations on Jeremy Brett's Sherlock Holmes persona. I would have loved to see Jeremy Brett play the Doctor.

I'd like to see Fry as a villain for a change, myself. I think he could do it well. Fry as a rather smartass professorial villain would rock the universe. And Alan Davies, of course, as his henchman Baldrick .... er, Igor. Or something.

You'll need to use UBB markup rather than HTML.
Use square brackets, a href becomes url and img src becomes img.
