It was fine. Good setup, not enough payoff. One bit of actual jeopardy for someone we know and care about. Nice sideways look at life with the Doctor. Amy and Rory finally get a dressing-up historical adventure and we almost miss it.

Below par. Took too long to get going and then was over far too quickly with no real expanation as to why.

I think the important thing about this episode to be aware that it wasn't really about the cubes. The cubes just gave us a chance to see stuff about the characters.

I liked it. I liked the character bits a lot. i liked Kate Stewart and the science led UNIT
Because of a previous episode having Rory say he was 31 and this one saying the Doctor has been in Amy and Rory's life for ten years, I'm seeing a lot of sites listing this episode as taking place in the 2020-21 range [though if the ten year mark was true, it would be 2018 as the Atraxai arrived in 2008 but that isnt the point] but Amy clearly says its ten years only for the Ponds, NOT for the world. She's mentioned before that their friends are noticing them aging faster. Brian even asks how long they were gone when the disappear on their anniversary party. Have we ever had companions before who tried balance regular lives with life in the TARDIS?

Actually 2020-21 would be correct as Amy (and then Rory) only started travelling with the Doctor two years after the Atraxi/Zero incident, that being 2010.
But anyway, it's almost certainly not that far ahead for the rest of the world, it's just the Ponds that are that much older.

The resolution of the cubes was an anti-climax. Yet another humanoid was behind it, and it was a fairly pathetic reason for them. Surely if they had the technology to make the cubes, they could have talked to any one of the hundreds of aliens that have previously fought humans and just asked what their weaknesses are? There are far easier ways to wipe out humanity.
The character bits were good - the final line about cubed and the power of three was very painful.

The episode itself was pretty good. I felt the ending war a bit rushed. I would have liked more info on the bad guy. This episode would have worked better as a 2 parter in my opinion, but it would have been much slower paced. Either way it was pretty interesting for what it was. Not the best episode I've seen, but far from the worst.
One another note, WTF is up with th title sequence. The colour and ;ighting keep changing. I get the new title changes to match the episode, but the colour changes are getting wierd. At first I thought it was just darkening to build up to something, but in this episode the colour change was to much to ignore. It's not that I don't like it, it's just confusing.

The show's inverstment in its main characters is paying off. Having the Brig's daughter carrying on her Dad's legacy was a fitting tribuite to the character and actor. It would be nice if this is the beginning of a trail to a race more powerful than the time lords for whom the time war wasn't even a minor inconvenience.

Re Kate Stewart-she may(?) turn up in Defending the Earth given she was in Downtime( have the VHS tape somewhere) and in the Scales of Injustice novel.

But anyway, it's almost certainly not that far ahead for the rest of the world, it's just the Ponds that are that much older. If it were real world time it would depend on if it goes from Atraxi [2008] or from when Amy leaves in the TARDIS [2010]. But despite him leaving them alone for months [which almost seem to overlap with the periods the show is not on the air] it does seem to be a case of relative aging which is kind of an interesting idea. And all those who thought older amy in 'the Girl Who Waited' looked too good, well , look at how good Amy is aging

Episode highlights for me - The Birdie Song (I am so going to inflict that on players at some point), The Doctor trying to keep himself occupied while staying with Rory and Amy. The cubes themselves. The sharp dialog. UNIT changing, moving forward on a science footing... Interesting to see how that changes over time.
I've given up trying to work out continuity as far as Rory/Amy's timeline is concerned.
Hopefully, as has been mentioned above, this isn't setting up the Big Bad for the season.

"About an hour" "who knew....Zygons" etc... loved the humour in the episode, but the suspense was a bit more weak than usual.
