This has been a pretty good series-I think Matt Smith is growing into the character well. Adolf is still in the closet though isn't he?

I thought it an excellent episode. It had so many elements that just do it for me; alternate reality/timeline, inside jokes ("Area 52"), action, the fear that alt-Rory would be done in by the Silents and a carbine wielding Spymaster Amy in her black suit from "The Day of the Moon" were just a few of the high points.
Personally I find it doesn't do to hold Doctor Who to too high a standard in terms of hard science and continuity, I think it's really meant to be a romp and that's what I feel we got here.

I was a bit worried it was only a one-parter and the next time gave us so much to look forward to. It turned out to be one of the best series finales I've ever seen. In one word: Fantastic! Now I wonder: when will The Doctor tell River Song his real name?

Lots to like. A nice nod to the Brig (the fact that his death made the Doctor face his own mortality, and a visual referance to Courtney's most famous anecedote); The alternate earth; thinking it was Rory instead of the Doctor (when it was normally the reverse). But....
...it seemed just to blur the fact it was the Tesalecta, not the Doctor at the lake (so why did it start to regenerate?) and the question/cliff-hanger was a bit underwhelming.
Cheers Mark

It started to regenerate to make it more believable that the Doctor actually died. It probably used the same holographic technique it uses to impersonate people to simulate regeneration energy.
This episode is almost the inverse of A Good Man Goes To War. People fear the Doctor vs. people are willing to help the Doctor. Doctor starts by winning a battle without bloodshed vs. the Doctor is imprisoned and defeated.

The question, hidden in plain sight.
Wonder what the answer to that one will be.
Superb finish to an above-average series. Sure, I didn't like the whole cliffhanger at the mid-season break. Fact I thought that episode was terrible and very out-of-character.
I particularly like the way it leaves things very open for the next season - the slate has been wiped clean and there's only the matter of The Question to deal with.
Actually looking forward to the Christmas special for once.

But the Doctor HAD to die. It was a fixed point in time at a fixed space in time and HAD to happen. It NOT happening led to all of time disintegrating and happening at once. So how could he escape the death that HAD to happen without leading to the same problems that River's actions caused by NOT killing him?
This to me is like the Pandorica climax. A future doctor who has already escaped helps the past doctor to escape. Logically impossible regardless of what you might say.
Moffats strategy seems to be to rush the plotline with fast talk, lots of running and while 'dad' explains whats happening to confussed wife/kids, Moffat hopes he misses the massive gaps in a logical plot progression.
That all said, I still loved it!

It is what is known in some quarters as "saving face" and in others as " tricked out time". In short, what we saw happen and what actually did happen can be quite different. In effect, the Doctor faking his death using the Tesselecta was what had always happened, that was the fixed point - it's just that to everyone else it looked like the Doctor had been killed. Time travel cleverness at its best.
