Good fun; the first part really felt rushed but I did like the setup in Area-51. And as to the ending In some ways I think we will only be able to judge these first two episodes at the end of the season when all the questions are (hopefully) answered. DW

I always love it when an episode of any series makes my jaw literally drop. This was one such episode, especially that end scene.

The laser battle/massacre felt a bit pointless.
Given that we never found out their agenda, I hope the Silence are actually bad guys since the Doctor just told all humanity to kill them on sight...
But yeah, ending, whoa.

18:44 on the 30th June 2011: the moment that 8 million people all went . I still don't quite understand why they had to pretend to be on the run, but the ending - both the TV screen and the little girl - was well worth it ;D

But yeah, ending, whoa. Call me cynical, but given that they manipulate other races from the shadows (by their own admission, even), that tends to make me think their intentions are not of the good. Unless, of course, they were doing it 'for humanity's own good', but that wasn't the impression they gave. I'll agree that this was a rather aggressive solution on the Doctor's part though.

The Silence were left with the option of leaving humanity alone. It's not like humans will be hunting them or anything. The ending was decidedly Also, the woman behind the hatch in the door...who? what? And the photo of Amy with a baby in the little girl's room...hmm

Another excellent Moffat story where the solution is to use the alens own abilities against them (ala last seasons Angels stories). I can forgive the number of hanging plot hooks becasue its the season opener and the first ep was essentially busy setting up the second. I do think it all moved a bit fast and didn't explain much (at least for teh stuff I'm assuming isn't a plot hook) So we've got unknown women with steel eyepatches Regenerating children Homocidal spacesuits (they never really resolved that bit) Indeterminate pregnancies River being River And the whole dead doctor thing
Sounds like a wild ride this year

I liked it, but have lots of questions that I hope will one day be answered

I thought it was a great conclusion to that story and clever way of defeating the Silence. We'll find the resolution to these questions as the story progresses but it has done the job it's meant to which is ensure whatever happens I'll be watching each and every episode.

i dont remember seeing women with steel euepatches where abouts was that? anyways i find it funny that all the hints about the silence is that the silence will fall , now normally when people say something will fall it would most likely meant as they will be defeated so why would the silence say it themselves wouldnt they say silence will succeed or something

The Non Sequitur Woman With The Eye-Patch appeared in a grate in the door to the little girl's room. Except... there was no grate. Was there?
Now, to paraphrase what I've said elsewhere, I think The Silents are the aliens, but The Silence is their goal. Amy will, apparently, 'bring about The Silence' (or perhaps 'bring about The Silents', who knows). I think their goal, The Silence, is the quiet obedience of every being in the universe to their unremembered masters. Hence "Silence will fall" as they gain complete control.
...but then, we've not seen the whole story yet, or know what their plan is, or what the little girl is for or who she really is. So who knows?

I think Rel Fexive might be onto something; silence falling sounds like something separate to the Silence themselves.

Now that you reminded me.....the woman with the eyepatch. Didn't she say of Amy's finding the room 'Oh, she's just dreaming again?'.....

Loved this episode.
Rampant speculation time! TARDISes aren't made, they're grown. We have two "mysterious" characters - the child, and the lady with the patch. I suspect that they are key components in the TARDIS that the Silents were occupying. I'm thinking that the regenerating child is destined to become the Heart of the TARDIS, with all the inherent energies involved, while the woman with the eyepatch may be the mind. The plan is to eventually merge them with the TARDIS to cause it to operate.
I'm also thinking that the little girl is Amy and Rory's daughter, but due to the influence of the silents, the pregnancy (and birth) is not remembered, and probably hasn't happened yet. The fluctuating positive/negative readings of the TARDIS when scanning to see if Amy is pregnant at the end is likely due to the Silents interference, literally causing the scanner to "forget" the child when not looking directly at it.

I don't think that thing was a tardis it look more like the ship controls from the last season in the episode about the upstairs apartment
