ANYONE IN MY GAME YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO READ THIS. I WILL KNOW AND I WILL DROP YOU INTO A PIT OF DALEKS.
I'm running a year long game at Mount Holyoke College for the D&D Group "Renegades", which I am also the President/Co-President of. (The other Co-President is apparently taking a semester off.)
The Game will function sorta like 2 seasons of the show, with a big "Finale/Huge Reveal Episode" in the middle right before we leave for Christmas Break. There's a bigger plot with a keyword (like "Bad Wolf" for New Who 1)
Once I actually run this game I'll write up the "episodes" in more detail and post them as adventures for anyone to use. (I'll also throw in the maps I've drawn and any NPCs I've stated.)
I'll add to this as I come up with more "Episodes", but here's what I've got so far...
Episode 1 - The Stolen And The Stowaways
The players are all normal, 21st century humans who suddenly find themselves in the Med Room of a TARDIS. When they make their way to the control room the TARDIS tells them that she is looking for her Time Lord and crew, who were taken away by the High Council of Time Lords during the Last Great Time War. She has picked the players up, thinking that they were her lost crew... but they're not. Without her crew she can't drop the players back on Earth, so she enlists the players to help her perform repairs and find her missing crew.
Once the players agree, the TARDIS sends them into her back hallways, were there is an infestation of Korkins--- little blue aliens that like to eat wires and cheese, which I have lifted from the brilliant web The Search For The Truth.
In the course of getting rid of the Korkins one of the players gets a baby Adipose who thinks that the player is it's mom/dad.
Episode 2 - The Lost Hub
It was a normal day at Torchwood 4... and then the Hub got transported through space (and maybe time) to an uninhabited alien planet. The Hub looked like it had survived an earthquake, so the six man team moved out of the Hub and started the "Torchwood Colony" on a river nearby.
When the party arrives two members of the team have a baby daughter, another is pregnant. The Team doesn't want to go back to Earth (and the TARDIS probably couldn't land in the right place), they're happy with their little Colony.
Two members of the team, Douglas and Abby have been fiddling with a generator that was in the Hub's basement. They don't know that it's a busted up cyber conversion unity... and Torchwood 4 has some cybershades in it's basement.
The Players must help destroy the cybershades and the conversion unit. They've got the chance to grab some equipment (primitive sonic screwdriver, squareness gun, maybe some psychic paper) from Torchwood 4's Hub.
When they leave the TARDIS informs them that in two/three years the planet will be colonized by human-like aliens and the family names of the Torchwood 4 Hub will become very important historical names in that planet's history.
Episode 3 - The Mists of Decay
A small cold, snowy planet (think Hoth from Star Wars) has 1 inhabitable area where hot water springs warm the area and cortosis, an incredibly rare mineral can be found. A few years ago the Bad Wolf Corperation wanted to acquire the planet, but they couldn't due to the small town of Zephyr, a settlement of Space Gypsies.
Zephyr's population is in constant flux, since most of the habitats live in spaceships. Only 3 families, about 10 people, live in Zephyr full time. Allyson Odessa is the leader of these people, a job she inherited from her parents.
Before the Bad Wolf Corporation fell apart (due to the 9th Doctor) they dropped nanogenes on Zephyr... reprogrammed nanogenes. Instead of healing, they corrupt human healing. Almost everyone in town is missing an arm or a leg, and they have a moon shaped scar on the side of their hand or face. However all other wounds are healed.
The Party needs to find some way to either destroy the nanogenes or reprogram them so they'll stop eating people's limbs. The TARDIS will help them do this.
Oh, and just in case things get too easy, there are several very large wolves that prowl around the settlement... it's a good thing Allyson's got a huge sword and knows how to use it!
When they return to the TARDIS, now all honorary gypsys, the TARDIS informs her players that an archelogical expedition has brought an unknown, undated object to the New New York Museum of Natural History... a small white cube which glows from inside and has a complex symbol on one side. (The symbol is the Seal of Rassilon, the box is a Hypercube.)
Episode 4 - The Unknown Artifact
The players have two options:
1 - go in during the day, grab the cube and RUN FOR YOUR LIFE.
2 - go in at night, sneaky sneaky, grab the cube... and well still probably end up running for your life.
I've got a map drawn up, and I'll roll a d6 to determine where the players land. I've got stats for security guards and I'm going to mix the guards alertness checks with storypoints, because I think a chase through the museum would be fun.
Eventually the players get back to the TARDIS and they "plug in" the Hypercube...
Celestial Intervention Agency Agent Tor-15 reporting on Mission Change--- *message dissolves into static.*
The TARDIS tells the players that the message needs to be decoded... and they need a polarized flux balancer to do so. Luckily the TARDIS senses one not too far away...
Episode 5 - The Extraordinarily Woman
Note: This episode is based around Mount Holyoke College, where we live, work, play and study. So there's going to be a lot of references to Mount Holyoke stuff... like Jorge.
The TARDIS lands in front of Blanchard Campus Center, on a large lawn. As the party steps out they hear a scream and see a young woman with dark blue hair. She's trying to run away from two men dressed in black... they look like professional thugs. The girl has a backpack over her shoulder and a gun in her hand. She's shooting at the thugs and the thugs are firing at her.
Once the Party knocks out / scares off the two thugs they get a chance to talk to the girl. Her name is Lucia T. Davidson... or at least that's the name she's attending Mount Holyoke under. Her real name is Lady Luciatia Joustala.
Lucia is form another planet. The only easily seen difference between her and a human is the hair, her's is naturally blue. She's the last member of her family, all the rest have died protecting the peasants who live on their land. She's engaged to marry Lord Carniti, which would make her Queen and allow her to support her peasants. In one day Lucia turns 22 and can be legally married to Carniti... if she lives that long.
Lucia has got a rivial, Lady Sanjay Desai. Sanjay is next in line to marry Carniti, so she's decided to eliminate the competition. She's sent her guards to kill Lucia before she comes of age.
That's why Lucia is at Mount Holyoke College. Her bodyguard decided to hide her among other smart young women... and it worked for four years. Lucia's guard is Jorgeael... however he is better known as Jorge the Goose, since he's been pretending to be a normal white goose for the past four years.
If the party will help protect Lucia for the final day then Jorgeael will give the party the stuff they need to fix the Hypercube.
The Hypercube's Message: Celestial Intervention Agency Agent Tor-15 reporting on Mission Changelings. I have completed my Mission-- the Children are secure-- I repeat -- the children are secure. The Children are hidden... Gallifrey's children have become cuckoos.
Now the TARDIS has a new mission for the players to help her with... finding these children who have been hidden all over the universe.
The TARDIS, using the Hypercube, finds 3 signals. She'll give the party the Planet of Origin and Time of Origin of each signal and the party decides which one they want to go to first.
The Three Signals
1. Planet: Mirpam Date: 9.1 Apple 7042]
"The 1,000 Year Fair"
2. Planet: Dayeline Date: 4016
"The Lost Colony"
3. Planet: Barcelona Date: 8.D377
"The Unearthly Child"
Signal 1 - The 1,000 Year Fair
Plant Mirpam was originally settled by humans. However the planet (mostly it's science labs) were responsible for the Catkind, who -- after their War of Independence -- took control of the planet. They've got a royal family and the planet is a mix between modern day England and a "traditional" Kingdom. There is an elected government, but the King still carries a lot of power.
Every 1,000 years their is a huge fair which celebrate the Catkind being recognized as a intelligent species after 1,000 years of being pets/slaves/"lesser" lifeforms.
The Party arrives during this fair, when King Sajan III plans to use the festivities to end the Royal Family's support of The Brothers Of Regret, a group of "priests" who want all non-Catkind to be removed from Mirpam... or killed. (My notes for this actually call them Cat Nazis.)
The Brothers Of Regret have decided to kidnap the King's son, Prince Xuren II, who is the heir to the throne and 11 years old. They've got a modified Cyber Conversion Unit, which they can use to brainwash Xuren and make him the Brothers' slave.
Xuren is exploring the fair with his adopted cousin Taika (Human and 12 years old. She was adopted by Xuren's gay uncle and his bf.) whom he's got an adorable little kid crush on. They can tell that something is weird and something (haven't decided what yet) makes them trust the Party, who are wandering around the Fair.
The Brothers Of Regret take Taika and Xuren. While the King doesn't like the BOR, the local population thinks they're a good organization and won't help the party, which means that they need to go save the two kids.
Signal 2 - The Lost Colony
When Planet Dayeline was "discovered" the humans found a small town inhabited by humanoid aliens (basically humans w/ strange coloring) who had creation stories which involved several members of a "Lightwood Institute" being taken from their home planet and placed on the planet the humans called Dayeline.
Basically this is the planet from Episode 2 - The Lost Hub, several thousand years down the line. The members of Torchwood / their kids married and had children with the local sentient species (Haven't come up with a name for them, probably won't need to come up with one.)
When humans came to Dayeline they introduced a disease which killed a lot of the local population (seriously, if left maybe 25 at most.) The remaining local species joined together with the humans and created a colony (at the same spot where Torchwood 4 created their colony).
Shortly after the colonists settled The War Of Meadow Ford Reserve broke out, which cut them off from any support / help. The last transmission received from Dayeline said that an unknown disease was killing off the settlement at an alarming rate. Then the messages stooped coming. Dayeline went silent.
The TARDIS lands in 4016. The TARDIS tells the players that humans won't return to the planet until 4022, when the planet gets the nickname "the Roanoke of the Alidpin System". (Roanoke was a colony in North Carolina whose population mysteriously vanished. It's called "The Lost Colony".)
As the party goes through the town they find several notes which indicate that something really strange and really creepy happened in the town. (I've actually written out the notes and roughed them up a bit, so they look like they've gone through hell.)
Eventually they meet a young girl named Faith (13 year old girl) who tells the party it's not safe to go out at night. She takes them to the church where she apparently lives with Isac (6 year old boy). The two are the only survivors of the town, who all died of disease about 6 years ago... and it seems like Isac is sick, because he's coughing up blood and is strangely silent.
That night strange noises / ghostly voices can be heard outside. Eventually Isac manages to be alone with the party (= Faith steps outside to find food or something) and he helps the party figure out what's going on.
When humans left Earth they took their beliefs with them... which includes the demons and devils they believed in. Something about the despair of being abandoned on the planet (and possibly some left over Torchwood 4 tech) made it so that one of those creatures stopped being a belief and became real.
The disease that destroyed the colony was really the Slender Man. He's real and he wants to leave Dayeline... but he isn't strong enough to just leave. He needs to have a ship and someone who believes in him. He didn't realize that he needed belivers until he'd killed everyone except for Faith and Isac.
Isac has been 6 for a long time... it's easy to control a six year old. Mentally he's kinda older, he's sorta trapped in a strange mixed state of being older and younger at the same time.
Isac wants the party to leave before the Slender Man can "get to them". He is afraid to go with them in case he somehow takes the Slender Man with him.
The coughing up blood is part of the Slender Man's effect on people. Faith used to cough up blood, but now she's changed so much that she's almost a Slender Man herself, she now has the ability to change into a sorta half-Slender Man half-human creature.
When she realizes the Party is trying to leave she and the actual Slender Man attack... if things start to go badly for the Party (someone trips or something like that) Isac will sacrifice himself to stop Faith and the Slender Man.
At the end of this adventure, when the party gets back into the TARDIS and (if they've saved Isac) after they've found him a new home, one or two members of the party discover that they're coughing up blood. ---> They're lead to believe this means they've been "corrupted" by the Slender Man. (This isn't true.)
Signal 3 - The Unearthly Child
The 3rd signal leads the party to Canada (The Town) on Barcelona (The Planet) in the year 8.D377. The TARDIS informs the party that the signal is stronger then the last two they've gone after, but that it's also recent--- the child has moved to the area within the past 5-6 months.
They land next to a small corner store on Osos Street, across from an elementary school and a row of houses. It's summer but the school year is going to start soon and while children play on the school's playground parents talk with each other about the approaching school year.
If the party questions the children/parents about whose moved into the neighborhood recently they learn that the only kid to move into the area within the past two years is a little boy named John Smith. He and his father moved into 1963 Osos Street about four months ago. He "about 8" years old and there's no mother (or 2nd father) in the picture, but no one knows why. John and his father ("Harold? Harry? Something with an H.") haven't really socialized with the neighborhood--- the parents only seen them when the Father takes John to the playground, and although he's charming he never really talks about his family's past.
If the party doesn't want to talk to anyone, then whatever tech they've got can point them towards 1963 Osos Street.
The house is small: 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and a big L shaped room that's a combination kitchen/dining room/living room. If the party actually looks around they'll find several odd things in each room.
The living room has a TON of books... in more languages then you can think of. One or two of the books are written in this strange language that seems to be made of circles. (*cough*Gallifreyan!*cough*)
One of the cupboards in the kitchen is slightly open and crammed full of jelly babies. There's two bunches of bananas in a fruit bowl. The fridge has little-kid drawings on it and there's a two bowls, one with water the other w/ dog food.
The door to one of the bedrooms is open. Inside there's two "areas". One is centered around a little-kid sized desk, where there's a strange combination of taken apart toys, legos and mechanical bits. The other area is centered around an adult desk, which is covered with parts, tools and wires. Something is half-built in the center of the desk.
The other bedroom is closed and locked. When the players get inside they see what looks like a very regular bedroom. There's a large bed pushed up against one of the walls, the closet is open but only has a couple of items of clothing inside...
Oh and pushed up into the opposite corner of the large bed is something really strange... a large blue box which says "Police Public Call Box" on it. Yeah, it's the TARDIS. If the party opens the door and goes inside they'll find that they can't get any further then the control room and the lights are all really dim, perhaps one of the more technically adept can notice that it's running on "reserve power"
After the party finds the TARDIS they can hear a horrible sound from outside. It sounds like two/three cars suddenly screeching to a halt. One of those cars blasts the horn. Hopefully this will get the players to go outside and investigate... as they exit the house they can see two black vans race off down the street, side door not even completely closed on one van.
The parents and children from the school playground are making a lot of noise, several parents are on their phones, others are trying to comfort the kids. In the middle of the road is a old fashioned yellow convertible... it's Bessie! (tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Bessie)
Sitting in the car, clutching at a large white dog and crying is a little boy with messy brown hair... and he's wearing a long multicolored scarf. As the party approaches the car and the boy he turns around to face them... and at this point I ask my players to picture "an eight year old David Tennant."
Background Info: Last school year I ran a short DW Game (3/4 sessions). During that game my players helped save the world w/ an AU version of the 10th Doctor and Simm!Master. The Doctor was de-aged by Evil!Donna Nobel ("The Master-Donna") and at the end of the game they couldn't re-age him. So Chibi-Doctor needed to grow up the natural way...
My favorite Doctor/Master relationship has always been the "friend-enemy", like the relationship between 3 & Delago or the great quote from The Five Doctors (Ainley!Master) "A cosmos without the Doctor scarcely bears thinking about." So the Master decided to become "not good... but at least neutral" and make sure the Doctor didn't die in the process of growing back up.
The signal has lead the Party to the Chibi-Doctor and the Master. They were traveling in time and space, the Master doing his best to keep the Chibi-Doctor in once piece when they accidentally flew through a rip in space/time, through the void and into the universe which this game takes place in. The TARDIS was practically drained of power and they had no choice but to land on the first planet they could find and wait for the TARDIS to refuel. They didn't have enough energy to reach the rift in Cardiff, so they landed on Barcelona. Their TARDIS is slowly refueling using "background rift energy".
The Master and the Chibi-Doctor had gone to the beach for a picnic. They were on their way home when two black vans stopped them and men dressed in security uniforms with "VRI-S" embroidered on them jumped out. Several men grabbed the Master and shoved him into one of the vans. They also tried to grab the Chibi-Doctor, but the parents coming over from the playground and Alonso (the big white dog, who is the Chibi-Doctor's pet) made it so the men had to leave with just the Master.
One of the parents (from the playground) remarks that the men probably worked for Van Ryan Industries, a local company run by Stuart Van Ryan II, who has tried to run for President of Barcelona four times, but he's either lost or been disqualified due to attempts to buy the election.
Stuart Van Ryan II wants to be the ruler of Barcelona... at the very least. He's given up on doing this the legal way and has decided to just TAKE OVER THE WORLD! He's always been interested in UNIT and Torchwood... and has the largest private collection of old documents from the Earth organizations. In those papers he's found information about some man named Harold Saxon... and one day while reviewing job applications for a new lab he's opening up he finds a man who looks exactly like Saxon. After a little digging he becomes convinced that this "Harold Smith" is actually Saxon, so he decides to kidnap the man and use his inventions to take over the world. (He also wants to get the man's son, for... leverage.)
So the Party has to help get the Master out of Van Ryan's lair... and they're going to be helped by the Chibi-Doctor and Alonso. (The Doctor's so small that he can RIDE Alonso.) Once they break the Master out the party can give the Doctor's TARDIS "a boost" so that they can at least get to a rift and refuel enough to get back to their universe.
The goal of this adventure is to make my players (who are all girls) squee due to cuteness as often as possible and laugh frequently. It'll also be fun for my repeat players to see the Chibi-Doctor again. (He was really popular the last time around.) I'm also planing on having some adorable cute bit of the Master denying he's turning into "a good guy" when it's very obvious that he's wrapped around the Doctor's tiny little finger.
Episode 9 - The Rest Stop
After running all over time and space and giving the Lil'Doctor's TARDIS a boost the party's TARDIS needs to recharge... so the TARDIS goes to Cardiff and ends up right next to Torchwood III's invisible lift. Captain Jack Harkness thinks that the Doctor had managed to fix his Chameleon Circuit, so (without knocking) he walks right in.
Unknown to the Party, they will, in a later adventure, encounter a young Jack Harkness. So when Jack meets the group, but realizes that he knows these people but they don't know him, he invites them down into the Hub.
For purposes of this game CoE never happened, so Torchwood III = Gwen, Ianto and Jack. However Gwen is off with Rhys, so it's just Jack and Ianto... and a bunch of weevils which have broken free of their cells and gotten out into the Hub. So Ianto passes out anti-Weevil spray and the Party helps the two round up their escaped weevils.
Then it's off to chase after more children. Again, the TARDIS presents the Party with three different signals.
The Three Signals
1. Planet: Date:
" " Weeping Angels
2. Planet: Date:
" " Crossover With Firefly
