Hi guys ! I'm a french GM (sorry if my english sounds weird) and I'd like to have a DW session during an upcoming gaming convention. As I will probably have newbies of DW as players (DW is not a very popular show here...), I want to run an easy adventure. So I decided to adapt the 4th Episode of Doctor Who Adventure Game "Shadows of the Vashta Nerada". The problem is : I live in France and I have not received yet the Aliens & Creatures boxset (and I'm not sure to receive it before the convention). The adventure is almost ready but before the playtest, I want to know if there are specific rules about Vashta Nerada. Advices from GM who already used theses creatures are also welcome I don't know if this topic is not in the right section of the forum, so excuse me if I made a mistake

The Vashta Nerada attack is 4/L/L - that seems pretty intuitive to begin with. They attack in swarms, and don't seem to act as a "character" in and of themselves (though attempts to communicate can succeed, as we see when the Doctor tells them to look him up). The difficulty and rolls to avoid being consumed by them depends on the circumstances
It seems that they swarm one opponent at a time, so as a general rule, the holder of the smallest survival roll in a group will be the one attacked (so it's usually a good idea to have a few redshirt NPCs to die before the characters).
Some general ideas for the rolls and their difficulty:
Staying under a spotlight to avoid the swarms (Coordination + Athletics) - 3 Avoiding the shadowy side of a sunlit corridor (Coordination + Athletics) - 6 Keeping the Vashta Nerada at bay with a flashlight (Coordination + Marksmen) - 9 Avoiding a grisly death when the lights go out (Coordination + Survival) - 18 Running headlong into a dark room swarming with them (Coordination + Survival) - 30
So, if Alice and Bob are in a room when the lights go out, where Alice has Coordination 4 and Survival 4, and Bob has Coordination 3 but no Survival Skill, and they both roll a 7, Alice gets 15 (A failure) and Bob gets a 10 (a bad result). Since the Vashta Nerada swarm one victim at a time, Bob is instantly consumed (a Lethal result) and has barely a moment to utter a scream before the lights switch back on, leaving Alice to gaze into the vacuous eye sockets of Bob's remains.

Hopefully, Bob was a redshirt.
