Mini-Rant at unsung heroes of Doctor Who. Please join in Rory Poor Rory. Personally I think Rory is a great character and is played brilliantly by Arthur Darvill. But he doesn't seem to get credit as being a Companion, it's all The Doctor and Amy. Okay, I love Amy, but this is not the first time companions have been overlooked. Adric This really is a poor, poor Adric. As a kid I liked Adric. I wanted to be Adric, the kid running around the universe with The Doctor. Matthew Waterhouse was not to blame for the 'annoying one,' that was the writers and directors. And to some degree Tom Baker. Adric ends up paying the ultimate sacrifice. Mickey I admit that when Rose first aired I didn't like Mickey. but it transpired that Noel Clarke was going through a rough time. It's good that the DW team had faith in him and broght him back becuase he did develop into a solid character, in fact he has been one the most developed characters in the history of the show. Yet somehow he still doesn't seem to be treated as a companion. Vicky Okay, I'm going back a bit now. And yes, she is certainly recognised as being a companion. But I always feel when I watch her stories that her part was written with Susan in mind. Let's face it, Vicky was pretty much a like for like replacement for Susan and as such always feel she was not recognised as a character in her own right.

I completely agree with you on Rory and Adric. I will also agree that, while Mickey and Vicky are both technically companions, Mickey's run (as most auxiliary companions during the RTD era) was so short he was more of a reoccurring character that true companion. Also, I can't claim to know enough about Vicky to truly say whether she has a greater role as companion or no.

Harry Sullivan - often overlooked, but he was a great character and there was an excellent dynamic between him, Sarah Jane and the 4th Doctor. Poor old Harry wasn't even given a proper farewell.

totally agree with you on Harry Sullivan. And such a sadness that Ian Marter died so young

I agree with Harry, Micky and Vicky. Rory has been well serviced so far - appearing and having a plot developing role in nearly every episode so far. Adric I can't stand for being the whiney genius that puts Wesley Crusher to shame. Mind you I'm not a fan of Tegan or Turlough for the continued whining either.

Doc 5 didn't have a great crew really.
Tegan I found annoying. she had the chance to travel in the TARDIS and just wanted to go home! Then there's the issue of Janet Fielding turning her back on Dr Who until recently when, oh it's popular.
When I was young I didn't like Turlough. Nowadays I quite like him. And Mark Strickson is great at conventions.
I love Nyssa but always feel she was often overlooked. So she would be another unsung hero.
