Ah, about time we had a "Moffat Unleashed" episode. Oh yeah, for those miffed at that on-screen graphic of Graham Norton at the end of the episode, you can stick the boot in here... www.bbc.co.uk/complaints/homepage/

It stops there?
I liked it. I'll have to think about it further. I liked it, it's good. I actually didn't realise that all the statues were going to be angels. I fell for the misdirection of the Doctor stating that they were just statues at the beginning. It's a bit weird that the angel was talking to them. It's a bit weird that it was playing mind-games with the Doctor. But I'm very curious to know where this is going. Curiosity significantly piqued by how this looks like it will tie into the larger plot line with all the bits and pieces in the Next Time segment.
River Song is very annoying when she's supplanting the Doctor. Better when she actually turns to him for help. It feels odd and a shame that Amy gets relegated in status by River's arrival. I would have thought she'd be more put out. It's dissipated any romantic tension between the Doctor and Amy.
My quick thoughts.

Liked it, but didn't OHMYGIDDYAUNTTHATWASAMAZINGIMUSTSHOWALLMYFRIENDSNOW it like with Blink. we'll see with part two.
The radio trick felt more Vashta Nerada than Weeping Angel. Hrm.

I really ejoyed it. There were some great lines in there and the suspense was great. Didn't feel like the Angels from Blink though. Looking forward to next week though.

What the thing about River being a wife, and the Doctor and the Father talking about self marriage? Is that a hint that River may be a female clone of the Doctor similar to Jenny?

River's been in prison. She's clearly been a bad girl at some point and I'm curious to find out how. The Bishop's "Does he know what you are?" was most intriguing.

One man's archaeologist is another man's grave robber or thief of vital cultural icons from antiquity. Or just a plain old light-fingered tea leaf, of course.

What a truely fantastic episode. Just the pre-title sequence was fantastic. I love the way River Song makes The Doctor uneasy because she knows him better than himself, an unusual situation for The Doctor. But I just loved it. The whole episode from start to finish was excellent; the best episode of the series so far.

I think that's highly unlikely, if not downright daft. But that's just me. And some friends.

It's more likely she's Donna than it is she's Jenny.

I don't think she is Donna. The Bishop's comment was likely just a reference to her being a criminal and having been in prison.

I have to agree with Eryx. I think the 'what you are' comment is just a reference to whatever crime she's committed. Maybe she's a murderer, or a war criminal, or something like that. Possibly falsely accused. I doubt Moffat will get as convoluted as making her a clone or a weird regeneration of a former companion. The thing about Moffet stories isn't that they are convoluted, its that they are pretty straightforward, just with the tension and execution ramped up.
As for the episode, I'm not ashamed to admit that I was squirming uncomfortably in my seat during Amy's confrontation with the Angel. That scene alone made them even more terrifying, even without the business with the eyes.
While Amy was somewhat pushed to the background, it was less significant this time than it was in the Dalek episode. She continues to be given very good material to work with, and certainly seems one of the most resourceful companions in a long time. Her escape from the angel was frankly brilliant, and one I wouldn't have thought of. And while her interactions with the Doctor were somewhat limited, I enjoyed her and River together.
I somewhat expected the revelation about the statues, but it was nevertheless well done. I liked how its discovery revolved around the Doctor talking about the native culture and then suddenly realizing the obvious warning sign that was staring him in the face... well after it was too late.
Part of River's charm is the way she DOES upstage the Doctor... but only at the minor things. There's a recognition that she is in over her head, but only just. She doesn't panic, and in that way, actually reminds me of Amy.
I'm actually looking forward to seeing an episode which is their first meeting from HER perspective.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing an episode which is their first meeting from HER perspective. Me too. Could be fun, with the Doctor getting preemptive revenge for all the times she's embarrassed him...which are her getting revenge for what he did at that meeting.

I'm wondering if they plan to never make the first meeting episode - it could be one of those nebulous mysteries that adds to the mythos of the Doctor, like his name.

The BBC has apologised to Dr Who fans for the Graham Norton banner that came up at the end of the show Saturday, and have said they have taken steps to make sure it doesn't happen again, apparently they received thousands of complaints. uk.tv.yahoo.com/27042010/19/bbc-sorry-ad-during-doctor.html

The radio trick felt more Vashta Nerada than Weeping Angel. Hrm. I think that's a favourite plot device of Moffat's in general. Remember the Empty Child's ability to speak through anything with a speaker grill? Anyway, overall I liked the episode. Didn't mind River Song as much as other people did. Also like that they've expanded on the Weeping Angels a bit, and made them more threatening than before. Hopefully there'll be some exposition on their origins in the second part. From the passage quoted by River it sounds like it might be some sort of 'art come to life' deal, but I could just be being too literal.

I'm just wondering why the Angels are killing people rather than feeding off them and sending them into the past.

I'm just wondering why the Angels are killing people rather than feeding off them and sending them into the past. With the body present, they can use it to speak to people through the radio and lure them into a trap, thus giving them more people to feed on and making sure nobody can stop them getting to the other energy source available locally, the Byzantium. Once they learn about the Tardis, that might become a target too.

Once they learn about the Tardis, that might become a target too. I've only seen the episode once, but wasn't there something said about the angels feeding on the energy and radiation being spilled from the Byzantium? If that is indeed the case, they don't need to bother with feeding on humans, and can just kill them the old fashioned way.

True - but I find it a bit convenient that Angels can now eat non-conceptual forms of food.

And remember these are not the scavengers just trying to survive like in Blink. We really don't know the full agenda of these new Angels.

True - but I find it a bit convenient that Angels can now eat non-conceptual forms of food. I don't think it is food, just using the radiation from the ship to prevent the degredation of the Angels in the maze.
