Not the Last of the Timelords

In rules terms, this shouldn't be a problem. The characters might feel a bit samey, as they all have much the same superhuman abilities (regeneration, boosted Ingenuity) but different opinions, styles and gadgets should counter this.

An alternative would be to have all the characters be remarkable in different ways - so there's a Time Lord, an unkillable man from the future, a Nestene duplicate with a human soul, a Victorian Silurian ninja detective...

One thing you could lose in character terms is the sense of wonder and surprise about travelling in time and space. Time Lords (even less experienced ones) can be blasé about meeting alien races, seeing the birth and death of stars and planets and the like. It could feel very different from regular Doctor Who.

Thanks for the advise guys! I wouldn't worry too much about treating aliens as blase. Even most companions would do that after the first three species or so.

It's the same problem you suffer with the Buffy RPG - everyone fades into the background compared to the Slayer. Pelgrane Press have a character matrix for their GUMSHOE games - a list of the skills down the side, a list of character names across the top, you tick off which characters have which skills. The Timelord isn't going to have everything, so focus aspects of the adventure on skills and abilities the Timelord doesn't have and allow the other characters their "screen time".

Craig's alternative group moves the game from Buffy to Angel - every character is unique and special in some way but you still need that focus within the adventures to pull each character into the fray.

Of the two approaches, I know which my players would want to take and which I'd want them to try!

If the Daleks could have the Cult of Skaro escape the Time War and fly into the void as a survival contingency, why not the Time Lords have a secret 'doomsday' group of Time Lords they launched in secret.

Whether they escaped into the voidspace, or hid themselves with Chameleon Arches is up to you.

-Students in a college or university. Maybe some are dropouts.

-Different age groups (an old man in a nursing home, the nurse, the janitor, the admin clerk, etc.). This would make for an interesting group of different character types.

-All young Time Lords. The group were the children of the most important Time Lords who sent them to Earth in secret to be spared. The Time Lords left 'coming of age' holographic messages for them that trigger on their 18th/21st birthdays with instructions on their Fob Watches.

Possible Plot ideas:

• The group brought with them several chests (bigger on the inside) that contain the cultural and scientific heritage of Gallifrey. They hid them, but can't remember where they are because they left a series of cryptic clues as to their locations to keep them safe.
However, several major nasty alien races (pick your favourites) learned of their existence and now want the secrets and technology they contain...
• As above, but the hidden treasures are their TARDIS'es. Or both.

Possible Complications:

- Perhaps while in human form some of them married, have children or at least someone they are dating. Maybe some of them became celebrities or publicly prominent; Or wanted by the authorities or the criminal underworld...

- Their fob watches were damaged, leaving their Time Lord memories incomplete...
