Hiya Quick post to say I'll be running a few demo games of Who at Dragonmeet. Each one will only last an hour so I can fit a few in, and they'll mainly be designed just to give you an idea of how the game works.
Some of the other C7 guys are doing some official demo games as well.
While I'm on the subject, could we have a forum slot for people to detail upcoming conventions and where games of Doctor Who might be running?

If anyone does get to go to Dragonmeet and gets to play a demo of The Doctor Who RPG, could they please give us an honest ( and detailed, if possible) account of how it went? Unless, of course, C7 get you all to sign NDAs at the table Thanks!

No NDA on the demo game Box set is very pretty, books within are gloriously glossy, and a wide selection of colour charsheets for the doctor and companions plus equipment sheets, plus plot point tokens - lots of tokens Demo game was v. simple, so not much of rules. attr + skill + 2d6 v. target Success chart is yes and, yes, yes but, no but, no, no and ... interesting. Gm came up with buts in this game but dont know if player also has a chance to add buts No hp or wounds, game can be lethal but storypoints alleviate. Attributes can also take damage. System (of what I've seen) is simple but effective. I'd go so far to say elegant. Looking forward to owning it Also, gm screen looks awesome

Don't know the exact mechanism, and have never played any variant of Traveller, so can't say I'm afraid One interesting piece of news (I think - I don't remember if it has already been announced?) is that C7 have the license/the nice man from the BBC has said yes to C7 doing 'classic' Who!

I had kind of got that impression from official comments made in some quarters, but there's been no actual announcement. That's awesome and shows that this game has got legs! Thanks for letting us know... perhaps there will be a big post-Dragonmeet announcement from C7!

Great -thanks Kaemaril; wished I could have been there.
What did someone say about some rule being left off the Character Sheet but they could live without it?
Can't wait...
By the way, what are the level of the stats, as in, what is human average and max?

Thanks for letting us know... perhaps there will be a big post-Dragonmeet announcement from C7! That would be nice. It wasn't 'announced' or anything here, just got it from chatting with the C7 staff about future plans for the game. I hope it was OK to mention it, but I assume if they were talking about it then it couldn't still be a big secret. I hope

By the way, what are the level of the stats, as in, what is human average and max? From the demo I was in the stats range between 1 and 4 for humans (skills in the same range but start at 0) that we saw.

blasted NDA!! I was the one who mentioned a "missing rule"...but I can't ask about it without violating the NDA. Well, when my game gets here I can ask about it then. Allen

I'll look forward to hearing what was left out. 1-4 for humans? I think a 6 might be human max: On the Doctors sheet it says: Time Lord (Experienced) - A Special Trait that gives the character all of the abilities of a Time Lord - they can regenerate (up to twelve times), they automatically gain the Feel the Turn of the Universe and Vortex Traits, and gain 2 levels of the Ingenuity Attribute (even if this takes the Attribute above 6).
It's a pity this isn't 100% clear because I'm itching to start statting & converting characters.

Saw the box set. Books look good. Well designed. Nice picture throughout. Played in a demo last year and by the looks of it the system hasn't changed much since then. One of the demo games was focussed around Sally Sparrow, which is good. Boxed set has two adventures - and a dozen or so seeds. I did plan to pre-order but have to admit the price put me off as I'm seeng lower prices promised elsewhere. Sorrry guys. Already spent £10 getting int Dragonmeet, so saving that buying the game from elsewhere matters!

1-4 for humans? I think a 6 might be human max: That seems more likely as 1-6 gives a better spread for covering the diversity of human physiques etc 1-4 might have been a bit too limiting.

Interesting, very interesting. Stats taking damage like old Traveller then? Thanks for this insight; looking forward to the game finally arriving! It seems some weapons are automatically lethal (e.g. Dalek) while others have a damage score, which reflects the amount of damage the appropriate attribute (or attributes) takes. For example, if you're shot by an arrow and hit in the arm you might take damage to your strength attribute, etc. This is where the success level comes in with the Yes and, Yes, Yes but, No but, No, and No but levels come in. If you roll very well you can alleviate some of the damage or even render a lethal result less lethal. To confirm, 'normal' human attributes are in the range 1-6. Or so it seems after a brief skim on the train

This is starting to sound a bit hippy, new age, indie rpg to me! Nah, if it were that bad I'd have burst out in an allergic rash when I bought it* I'm still skimming the book, but I've just looked up the damage stuff ... Damage multipliers for when you're hit: No - but - aka 'Failure' result - if you're hit you take half damage No - aka 'Bad' result - you take normal damage No, and - aka 'Disastrous' result - you take one and a half damage .5 and 1.5 round down to a minimum of 1. A hit always inflicts damage. A weapon has a rating, which is either S, L, or a number which is the 'bad' result. The marksman table gives many examples: e.g. Arrow 1/3/4 Dalek Ray 4/L/L The values are for the Failure/Bad/Disastrous results. So, a Dalek Ray is usually but not always instantly lethal. L = Lethal S = Stun. Typically for 30 minutes, but you can also multiply depending on result, so 15 mins or 45 mins is also possible. GM is also free to pick a time if appropriate to the story. * Alas, it was not for sale at Dragonmeet. I picked up a copy in the charity auction. One other chap picked up the other copy in the raffle they were doing for pre-orders at the C7 stand. Hopefully he's a member here also ... ? You never know edit : btw, mods, I'm happy to keep 'chatting' here, but if you want it moved elsewhere feel free. Well ... not that you wouldn't already but ... you know

Thanks for explaining the "damage" system ( obviously I wouldn't want you to publish too much of the core system rules for fear of irking C7, understandably, but this has heightened by anticipation no end). You realise you are now the envy of EVERYONE on the forum ( bar those who work for C7 and have access to the game already)!!!!

Oh well done, how much did that set you back? £250 (around $400). Ordinarily I wouldn't pay that much for a game I'm going to get in 11 days time anyway (twice, as it turns out ), but the charity was for a damn good cause and I'd not spent as much as I was planning to at the con anyway* so I thought what the heck Glad to hear it Well, perhaps. But that won't last long - roughly 11 days, in fact * In fact every penny went to C7 as it happens, 'cos the only other thing I bought was the complete set of Victoriana/GM screen/supplements + a pre-order of Doctor Who

I preordered at Dragonmeet and won the advance copy of the GM shield - and can confirm it is very sturdy and nicely put together! Looking forward to getting my copy of the game in a couple of weeks :-)

I assume it has all the necessary charts, but does it have any other good stuff? Is it just the screen, frex, or does it come with a booklet? Welcome onboard, btw

Thanks - just the screen, no booklet (at least in the one I got, it wasn't shrink-wrapped).

Thanks - just the screen, no booklet (at least in the one I got, it wasn't shrink-wrapped). I'm pretty sure this question was raised on the old C7 boards as well and the answer was "just a screen".
